Serie A Preview: Fiorentina and Roma in for a goalfest?

Updated: 18/11/2024

Tips and odds for this weekend’s Italian fixtures

The Serie A season rolls on to gameweek 11 this weekend, with Juventus looking to maintain their stranglehold at the top.

The Old Lady have an eight-point lead over Inter Milan and Napoli, and yet again they appear untouchable as they seek an eighth successive Scudetto.

We’ve taken a look at the big games this weekend, plus a round-up of the other headline fixtures…

Juventus v Cagliari

There shouldn’t be too much trouble for the league leaders this weekend. Juve are 2/11 to win at home to mid-table Cagliari.

The Sardinia outfit have claimed draws at Juve in 2013 and 2015, but the Turin side have won the last four meetings to nil.

Juve have won three of those by at least two goals, and they’re 8/15 on the -1 handicap, while it’s 8/11 they win to nil yet again.

Cagliari will have to watch out for Cristiano Ronaldo, with the Portugal star firmly settled into to life as a Juventus player after a double versus Empoli last weekend.

Fiorentina v Roma

Games between Fiorentina and Roma are rarely dull. There have been 24 goals in the last seven meetings.

And the two teams have already shown their goalscoring powers by netting 33 goals between them this term.

There’s 9/5 about over 3.5 goals, and 21/5 for over 4.5 goals in Florence.

In the match betting, visitors Roma are slight favourites at 31/20, with La Viola are 33/20.

Home advantage could play a role this weekend, however. Fiorentina have been superb at the Stadio Artemio Franchi, winning four of their five games, conceding just twice.

Best of the rest

Like their San Siro cohabitants Inter, AC Milan are on the right track. Gennaro Gattuso’s side have won four of their last five, and will be confident of making it five in six away at Udinese.

The Udine outfit are only 16th in the table, and our traders make AC odds-on favourites at 19/20. Each of AC’s last four wins have seen both sides find the net, and they’re 3/1 to win with both teams to score.

Sampdoria host Torino on Sunday, with both sides hoping to secure a European spot this season. Samp have already hammered Napoli 3-0 at home this term, and they’re 6/4 to win this weekend.

But Torino are unbeaten on the road. The Turin outfit have kept things tight to draw four of their five away games and 11/5 says this one ends all-square once again.
