Scottish Football ACCA: Celtic will easily claim first silverware of season

Updated: 20/11/2024

We’re not even a week into December, but the first silverware of the season is up for grabs in Scotland this weekend as Celtic and Aberdeen face each other in Sunday’s League Cup final.

There are big games elsewhere between Hearts and Rangers, and Kilmarnock and Hibs. This will be one of the best weekends of the Scottish season so far. Here are four picks for your ACCA.

Kilmarnock vs. Hibernian

SPL, Saturday, 1 December, 15:00

Just four points off the top of the Scottish Premiership table, Kilmarnock have so far built on last season’s success. Steve Clarke’s side have lost just once in their last nine league games, underlining their status as one of the toughest teams to beat in the Scottish game.

After a strong start to the season, Hibernian have fallen away in recent weeks and Neil Lennon’s side are without a win since their 6–0 thumping of Hamilton back at the start of October. Rather bizarrely given their attacking potency, the Leith side are struggling for goals. Rugby Park maybe isn’t the place for that luck to change, such is Killie’s defensive solidity.

Livingston vs. Motherwell

SPL, Saturday, 1 December , 15:00

Historically, Motherwell have fared rather well against Livingston and the Fir Park side are currently on a six-game winning run when it comes to away matches against the Almondvale outfit. That record stretches back years, though, so it’s debatable whether there is much relevance to the streak.

Livi have been the surprise package of the Scottish Premiership season so far, but Gary Holt’s side have been in poor form recently and suffered three defeats in their past four games. They have failed to find the back of the net since putting four past Dundee on October 20, so don’t count on many goals from the hosts this weekend.

Hearts vs. Rangers

SPL, Sunday, 2 December, 12:00

It was always expected that injuries would have an impact on Hearts, but even by the measure of those expectations, Craig Levein have been hit particularly bad by absences to key players.

The Jam Tarts have failed to score in each of their last four Scottish Premiership games. It’s almost as if they are just waiting for Steven Naismith and Uche Ikpeazu to return to full fitness.

That’s all we need to know to tip the Edinburgh based side to go scoreless once again.

Celtic vs. Aberdeen

Scottish League Cup Final, Sunday, 2 December, 15:00

Celtic got the job done against Rosenborg on Thursday night to give themselves a real chance of making the last 16 of the Europa League. Will they complete part two of their objective this week by picking up the first silverware of the Scottish season in the League Cup final? Their recent form, which has seen the Hoops score 26 times in seven domestic games, suggests they will be too strong to stop.

Aberdeen’s 3–0 defeat to Motherwell came as something of a surprise last week. Until then, Derek McInnes’ side had been on a good run, finally finding their groove in the final third. The Dons have something of a mental block when it comes to games against Celtic. Can they get over that at Hampden on Sunday?

Recommended Scottish football ACCA

Back Kilmarnock Under 1.5 Goals @ 4/11

Back Livingston vs. Motherwell to Draw @ 2/1

Back Hearts Total Goals 0 @ 7/4

Back Celtic Half-Time/Full-Time @ 10/11

Total ACCA Odds: 21/1

If we can get through to the Sunday games, including the League Cup final between Celtic and Aberdeen, we should be in good shape. The form book has been kind to us in recent weeks so, barring any unexpected shocks, this ACCA Insurance has potential.
