Saturday racing odds, tips and preview

Ed Chamberlin and his pals are stationed at Cheltenham today for another busy afternoon at the races.

There’ll be seven races to peruse and enjoy, including the International Hurdle at 3.05. A quartet of outings from Gloucestershire is joined by a trio over at Doncaster.

Summerville Boy – 3:05 Cheltenham

The Tom George-trained Summerville Boy heads the betting for the International Hurdle, and justifiably so.

We had been expecting to see the six-year-old go up against Laurina, but Willie Mullins pulled her out with concerns over the ground.

Summerville Boy didn’t wow us on her seasonal reappearance at Newcastle earlier this month, but he should be right at the sharp end today, having won over 2m 1f at Cheltenham back in March.

Rather Be – 1:55 Cheltenham

The Caspian Caviar Gold Cup Handicap certainly has an open feel about it. War Sound, Guitar Pete and Frodon could all feature.

But we’re fancying that Rather Be is the one to be on. Nicky Henderson’s seven-year-old made his seasonal return on Cheltenham’s Old Course last month, and looked poised to have a big say before being brought down late on.

Think back to his excellent run at this year’s Cheltenham Festival too, when he was a narrow second behind Mister Whitaker in the Close Brothers’ Handicap Chase. It’s clear Rather Be enjoys the 2m 4f around Gloucestershire, and we should see more evidence of that here.

Solomon Grey – 2:10 Doncaster

The Handicap Hurdle at Doncaster is another which looks to be highly competitive. Cliffs of Dover, Irish Roe and Solomon Grey are all vying for favouritism in the betting.

But it’s the latter we’re hunching for. Dan Skelton’s six-year-old is making his seasonal bow here, and will run for the first time since February.

It’s also Solomon Grey’s first time at Cheltenham, but that doesn’t faze us either. He was excellent in victory at Market Rasen 10 months ago, and shouldn’t have any concerns here in what is a beatable field.

ITV Racing tips:

1:55 Cheltenham – Rather Be

2:10 Doncaster – Solomon Grey

2:30 Cheltenham – Doux Pretender

2:45 Doncaster – Cracker Factory

3:05 Cheltenham – Summerville Boy

3:20 Doncaster – Go Conquer

3:40 Cheltenham – Chilli Filli
