Racing Tips: Black Corton to restart with a win in the Charlie Hall?
Updated: 20/11/2024
Weekend racing odds and preview
Thistlecrack may be missing, but there’s still plenty to get excited about on ITV4 this afternoon before the Breeders’ Cup takes centre stage in the evening.
Ed Chamberlin and co. will be stationed at Wetherby for three contests, including the Charlie Hall Chase. There’s also an exciting four-race offering from Ascot, where the Sodexo Gold Cup rounds out the action.
We’ve previewed it all in our ITV Racing Tips.
Black Corton – 2:40 Wetherby
Bryony Frost Saturday’s are back. The young jockey partners old favourite Black Corton in the Charlie Hall Chase, with the pair set to go off as favourite after the withdrawal of Thistlecrack. The duo won seven times together last term before tailing off towards the end of a long campaign.
Paul Nicholls’ runner goes fresh this time, with Frost having steered Frodon and Eason to victory for the training over the last week. The jockey always gets the best out of the all-heart Black Corton, who will relish the ground as he bids to retain his 100% record over 3m and rack up a third Graded success in the process.
Kings Lad – 3:35 Ascot
Joe Tizzard is plenty bullish about the chances of Kings Lad in the Sodexo Gold Cup – and with good reason. The 11-year-old has impressed since undergoing wind surgery in the summer, following up his second at Newbury with a nice handicap victory at Chepstow.
The son of King’s Theatre goes off a nice mark here, and with ideal ground forecast, he could take his chance under Richard Johnson. The jockey has a 29% strike-rate over the last fortnight and will get the best out of the raider over what could be the ideal distance.
Wholestone – 3:15 Wetherby
Wholestone looks a worthy favourite for the West Yorkshire Hurdle. Nigel Twiston-Davies’ raider was placed at both the Cheltenham and Aintree Festivals last year. That’s better form than anything else on offer from the likes of Clyne, Old Guard or Keeper Hill.
The seven-year-old always runs to a consistently high-level and finished second in this last year to Colin’s Sister. He has a decent record on reappearance, too, and should run well based on his past form on this type of ground.
ITV Racing tips:
1:50 Ascot – Wenyerreadyfreddie
2:05 Wetherby – Oscar Rose
2:25 Ascot – Ink master (each-way)
2:40 Wetherby – Black Corton
3:00 Ascot – Global Citizen
3:15 Wetherby – Wholestone
3:35 Ascot – Kings Lad
