NBA Friday Night ACCA: Lakers and LeBron to power past Mavs

Updated: 20/11/2024

It’s been a strong year for the rookies coming into the NBA and none more so than Luka Doncic. He will come up against an old great on Friday evening though, as the Mavs face the Lakers. All signs point toward King James coming out on top too.

Here are the games to follow on Friday.

Pelicans @ Heat

Saturday, 1 December, 01:00

A big road win would get the Pelicans above .500, so it’s very clear what the ultimate goal is for New Orleans on Friday.

They will as ever look to Anthony Davis for answers as the superstar has posted an average of 27.1 points per game this season. They will really need him here too, having lost their last four games on the road.

The Heat are extremely troubled this season. They’ve lost eight of their last 10 games and for this one will be without key man Goran Dragic who has a knee injury.

Despite the Pelicans’ issues, they should come out on top in this one against a Heat team looking hopeless. At home they are shooting under 44% while overall this season it’s under 41%.

Rockets @ Spurs

Saturday, 1 December, 01:00

The misfiring Rockets pay a visit to San Antonio, as they continue to try and get their faltering season on track.

After falling to the Mavs on Wednesday, Houston will look to snap what is now a four-game skid. James Harden produced a triple-double in that one and remains the main man, but it wasn’t enough as pressure continues to grow on the franchise.

The Spurs honestly haven’t been much better and have lost seven of their last 10 games. The latest was on Wednesday, as they were downed by the Timberwolves in a 128–89 road loss. A further blow came in losing Pau Gasol, who is out indefinitely.

The teams met earlier in the season and the Spurs came out on top. While they’re not on a great run right now, I do expect them to see off the Rockets who can’t buy a win.

Mavericks @ Lakers

Saturday, 1 December, 03:30

Los Angeles is the stage as the Mavs make the trip here with the Lakers looking to build on an excellent win over the Pacers on Thursday.

The Mavericks have impressed themselves lately too, winning eight of their last 10 games. The most enthusing feature of this run has been young Luka Doncic showing up in a big way. The rookie is averaging 19.1 points per game this season and should be a big factor here.

The Lakers continue to rely heavily on LeBron James, with the King recently helping them out of a dismal run. He is averaging 27.6 points per game and that win over the Pacers was significant for the Lakers.

On the road the Mavs simply aren’t the same and are being outscored by around five points per game. With that in mind it’s the Lakers who we will plump for.

Nuggets @ Blazers

Saturday, 1 December, 03:30

After an impressive win over the Lakers on Tuesday, the Nuggets have won four games in a row and move on to Portland.

It has been a real team effort of late with Malik Beasley, Jamal Murray and Paul Millsap all weighing in. Travelling to Denver has been miserable for some of the big teams this season and on the road the Nuggets can also spring a surprise.

For Portland, meanwhile, they’ve been unpredictable and ended up snapping a losing streak this week with a hard-fought 115–112 home win over the Magic.

At home they’re a lot more comfortable, however, and have won five of their last six recent encounters. Dame Lillard has been coming up big for the Blazers of late and arrives here off the back of a historic three-point shooting evening. Expect him to deliver once again and the Blazers to win.
