Man United v Arsenal betting tips: Can United stop hotshot Aubameyang?

Updated: 19/11/2024

Preview and odds for Premier League tie

There’s a Premier League classic in store tonight as Manchester United host Arsenal at Old Trafford.

But this isn’t the bygone days of Ferguson v Wenger. Tonight sees an under-fire Jose Mourinho welcome an Arsenal side flourishing under Unai Emery.

Old Trafford hasn’t been kind to the London side, however. But they have the Premier League's in-form striker in Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, so can they reverse their fortunes and heap more misery on the Red Devils?

Head-to-head

Arsenal haven’t won at the Theatre of Dreams since 2006. They lost both meetings against United last season too.

The Red Devils have 83 league wins to Arsenal’s 69 in this fixture. But the form-book looks more favourably on the London side.

Arsenal’s derby win over Tottenham Hotspur on Sunday extended their unbeaten run to 19 matches. United’s 2-2 draw at Southampton means they go into this one with just four home wins from 10 games in all competitions.

Likely XIs

Mourinho has more selection dilemmas to choose from this evening. He opted for a back-three of Scott McTominay, Nemanja Matic and Phil Jones at Southampton, but that didn’t seem to work given they were 2-0 down inside 20 minutes. Jones might miss out through injury tonight, while Chris Smalling and Eric Bailly may play, but won't be fully fit either.

So he may return to a back-four. Mourinho may also choose to move Matic in midfield and the Serbian could form a powerful engine room alongside Marouane Fellaini. The Belgian has been a thorn for the Gunners in the past. Ander Herrera would offer more balance, however.

As for Paul Pogba, yet more rumours of a rift between player and manager mean it’s equally likely he’ll captain United or be dropped entirely tonight.

Despite taking a knock on Saturday, Romelu Lukaku should hold down his place up front after ending his goal drought on the South Coast.

Emery only has one issue to solve, with Granit Xhaka suspended after collecting a fifth yellow card of the season on Sunday. Matteo Guendouzi and Aaron Ramsey are the likely contenders to fill in. Mesut Ozil may again miss out through reported back spasms.

Ramsey could also oust one of Alex Iwobi or Henrikh Mkhitaryan. The Welshman changed the game against Spurs following his half-time introduction. Alexandre Lacazette could start too for the same reason.

Key battles

Arsenal were sensational for spells against Tottenham. Such pace and movement is likely to cause United plenty of strife.

Both sides will look to get wing-backs overlapping the flanks. Luke Shaw versus Hector Bellerin will be a particularly intriguing contest.

And with Mourinho still bemoaning the quality of centre-halves at his disposal, Aubameyang will be licking his lips at continuing his goal-scoring spree.

Match odds

Home advantage means United go into this one as 27/20 favourites. But plenty of eyes will be on the in-form visitors at 15/8. There’s 5/2 about a draw.

Will Aubemayang score again? The Gabon striker is netting with almost every shot this season. He’s 11/2 to score first, just behind 5/1 favourites Lacazette and Lukaku.

Both teams to score fans are loving Arsenal this season. Each of the Gunners’ last seven league games have seen both goalkeepers beaten. BTTS is 1/2 tonight, while a score draw is 16/5.
