Man City v Hoffenheim betting tips: Will City bounce back from defeat?

Updated: 11/12/2024

Preview and odds for Champions League clash

Manchester City host Hoffenheim tonight looking for a response to their first league defeat of the season to Chelsea last weekend.

The Citizens did bag a late win over the Bundesliga side back in October.

Boss Julian Nagelsmann hasn’t compromised their attacking play in this campaign, which could set this up to be an early Christmas cracker!

Tune into BT Sport 2 from 8:00pm to catch all the action…

Head-to-Head

The one and only fixture between the two clubs was the game earlier in the group phase. David Silva grabbed an 87th-minute winner in Germany in a tightly-contested match.

Hoffenheim have had two score draws against Lyon before a loss to Shakhtar Donetsk last time out.

City will secure top-spot if they avoid defeat.

Likely XIs

Man City vs Away team - Football tactics and formations
Gabriel Jesus could return to deputise for the injured Sergio Aguero. The other alternative is to play Raheem Sterling or Leroy Sane in a false-nine role like they did against Chelsea.

Pep Guardiola should start with a 4-3-3 formation but Ilkay Gundogan or Phil Foden may get a start in midfield with David Silva out injured.

Nagelsmann will be without key men Adam Szalai and Kerem Demirbay. This could see Arsenal-loanee Reiss Nelson bag a start alongside Andrej Kramaric.

Leonardo Bittencourt should replace Kemirbay in the midfield engine.

Key Battles

Nelson and Kramaric should be a lively duo in attack for Die Kraichgauer. They could come up against Vincent Kompany and Nicolas Otamendi at the heart of City’s defence.

It’s midfield where this game could be decided.

Hoffenheim could elect to keep skipper Kevin Vogt in defensive midfield and play Steven Zuber and Bittencourt either side.

The absence of Silva could see a more solid base provided by Fernandinho and Gundogan for the Citizens.

Match Odds

Man City to qualify in style with a win is 2/9. Gabriel Jesus is 4/6 to notch anytime.

Guardiola’s men to run up a score and notch Over 3.5 goals is 17/10.

Hoffenheim have bagged 10 goals in their five group games which has included a 2-2 and 3-3 draws.

The German outfit are 3/1 to score 2+ goals at the Etihad Stadium. An away win is 12/1 with a draw 11/2.
