Man City v Burton Betting Tips: Will Clough’s boys cause a cupset?

Updated: 09/12/2024

Odds and preview ahead of Carabao Cup semi-final

The Carabao Cup revs back into gear tonight as Burton Albion travel to Manchester City in the first-leg of their semi-final clash.

For City, this game will be reminiscent of their last-four tie last season against Bristol City.

But this time it’s Burton looking to cause and upset. And with a Clough in charge, they won’t go down without a fight.

It all kicks off from 7:45pm on Sky Sports Football, but stick around for all the key odds right here…

Head-to-Head

This will be the first time the two sides go head-to-head. Burton are currently in ninth position in League One, but have beaten a team from a higher division in four previous rounds of this competition.

City come into this one after thumping Rotherham United 7-0 in the FA Cup and are going for their second-successive League Cup final appearance.

Pep Guardiola has already cited the game against Bristol City last year as a warning for his team.

Likely XIs

The Premier League game against Wolverhampton Wanderers on Monday night may well be in the back of Guardiola’s mind here.

Aro Muric should keep his spot in goal, after his quarter-final heroics against Leicester City.

But the boss could decide to go with a strong side including Kevin De Bruyne.

Nigel Clough will want his side to go out and thrive off playing the Prem champions.

Top-scorer Liam Boyce could start after he returned in the win over Rochdale.

Forward Marvin Sordell is missing but former City youth Devante Cole may have a point to prove.

Key Battles

Boyce will be keen to discover who partners Nicolas Otamendi at centre-back for City.

The Burton hit-man will be looking to add to his nine goals in all competitions.

A Cityzens midfield of Phil Foden, De Bruyne and Ilkay Gundogan could do battle with Stephen Quinn and Jamie Allen.

Gabriel Jesus and Riyad Mahrez may play alongside Leroy Sane in the home sides attack.

Match Odds

This could be a difficult one for Burton with City at 1/33 to win the game.

Burton are 18/1 on the double chance to avoid defeat in the first-leg.

You can get now get 5/1 on City to blitz the Brewers and be at least three goals up by the 40th minute.

Clough could throw caution to the wind and it’s 3/4 for there to be Over 1.5 goals in first half.

City to score Over 3.5 goals in the second half is 16/5.
