Harry Kane leads the race to win this Sunday’s BBC Sports Personality of the Year award, according to our latest odds.

Kane finished as the top scorer at this summer’s World Cup in Russia. His displays helped England to reach the semi-finals – equalling their best performance since 1966.

He’s now 6/4 to win the award, with Geraint Thomas (11/4) in second and Lewis Hamilton third (5/1).

There's also been plenty of backing for Ronnie O’Sullivan after he won a seventh UK Championship last week. His odds have been halved to 10/1 as a result.

“There’s been a number of fantastic sporting performances and achievements over 2018, but it was such a magical summer in Russia for England. We think that Kane’s heroics make him worthy of being the favourite to win Sports Personality of the Year this weekend,” said Coral’s Harry Aitkenhead.

The format has been changed this year, with the nominees now announced on the night instead of in advance. The change is expected to lead to a record number of bets being placed on Sunday.

“Usually we see more bets in the lead up to the night, as punters know the nominees. With all the contenders being revealed on the night, this could well lead to a record number of bets placed as people choose their Sports Personality of the Year on Sunday evening,” reckoned Aitkenhead.

There could be further joy for the England football team, with the Three Lions’ penalty shoot-out win over Colombia 4/5 favourite to win Sporting Moment of the Year.
