Friday’s ATP Finals tips: Cilic, Isner and Zverev eye semi-final spot

Updated: 20/11/2024

Preview and odds for today’s matches

The final batch of ATP Finals group matches take place today, with three players fighting over the remaining semi-final spot.

Novak Djokovic is already through in the Gustavo Kuerten group, after winning his opening two matches.

He plays Marin Cilic tonight, with the Croatian needing a win to go through. But if Alexander Zverev defeats John Isner in straight sets, Cilic’s hopes will be over.

Alexander Zverev v John Isner

German youngster Zverev is 2/5 to defeat John Isner, and with good reason too.

The 21-year-old has won four of his last five meetings with the American, so he isn’t fazed by Isner’s famed serve.

Isner is 2/1, and could yet go through if he wins well and Djokovic then beats Cilic. But Zverev was impressive against the similarly-heavy hitting Cilic earlier this week, and should have the edge again today.

There’s 11/10 about Zverev to grab the straight sets win he needs to progress. But Isner is sure to take a few games on his own serve. It’s 4/1 for the first set to end 6-4 in Zverev’s favour.

Novak Djokovic v Marin Cilic

Novak Djokovic is already through, but the Serbian has been playing superbly in London this week, and is unlikely to ease off and risk losing momentum.

Cilic narrowly lost to Zverev, before downing Isner in three sets. The Croatian must win, but his record versus Djokovic is a dismal two wins in 18 meetings.

Djokovic is the world number one, and a comfortable 1/7 to win tonight. Cilic, who may be all-but out by the time he plays, is 9/2.

Such is Djokovic’s form right now, he’s 4/9 to defeat Cilic in straight sets, while there’s 4/7 about under 22.5 games.
