Five January transfers that can make the difference in the Premier League

Who could take the Prem by storm?

The January transfer window is now over. Premier League throughout the division will be hoping they’ve got the right additions to their squad.

But the other side is getting the deals across the line that will help you push for the title, European spots or stave off relegation.

It may not have been a vintage mid-season window, but we have five standout transfers that could really make a difference in the second half of the campaign.

Michy Batshuayi – Crystal Palace (loan)

For much of deadline day it looked like Michy Batshuayi might end up at West Ham United, but he’s stayed south of the river with Crystal Palace.

The Chelsea striker has been out on loan, plying his trade on the continent for the last few years at Borussia Dortmund and Valencia.

Palace had been looking for a striker to come in and hit the ground running. He’s bagged 19 goals in 32 league appearances for his parent-club since 2016.

With Roy Hodgson’s men at 11/1 for relegation, his presence alongside Wilfried Zaha and Andros Townsend could shoot Palace to safety.

Miguel Almiron – Newcastle United

Newcastle United smashed their 14-year transfer record with the signing of Miguel Almiron for £20 million.

Rafael Benitez has finally got his man after coveting the attacking midfielder for a year.

Almiron can play as a number 10 or on the left-hand side in a 4-3-3 or 4-2-3-1 – or as a second striker.

But his quality doesn’t suffer as a consequence of his versatility. The Toon are currently five points clear of relegation and with Almiron, they could aim for another top-ten finish.

Denis Suarez – Arsenal (loan)

Arsenal may have an injury crisis in defence, but they’ve bagged a player that Unai Emery has been after for some time.

The Gunners have been lacking an alternative to Alex Iwobi on the wing and Suarez could provide a new dimension.

Emery’s men are 2/1 for a top-four finish that the club so desperately crave. They are also second favourites for the Europa League win that offers another route to Champions League football next season.

Suarez definitely has the trust of his new manager and could be the difference in a tightly-contested top-four race.

Youri Tielemans – Leicester City (loan)

Leicester City won’t be in danger of the drop but Youri Tielemans could be the key factor in a league of fine margins.

It’s generally accepted the top-six are pretty impenetrable right now, but they could finish best of the rest.

Three points separate the Foxes in eleventh and Wolverhampton Wanderers in seventh.

Tielemans has already amassed 250 first-team appearances – and he’s still only 21-years-old.

If he continues to impress, he may not be returning to parent-club Monaco any time soon.

Peter Crouch – Burnley

Burnley wouldn’t have expected to be in this position after their impressive seventh-place finish last term.

But with the club at 2/1 to fall through the relegation trap-door, they’ve brought in genuine Premier League experience.

Crouchy, as he’s affectionately known, has 205 career goals and could still be a menace to top-flight defences.

He's 23/10 to open his account for the Clarets against his former side Southampton.
