Chris Eubank Jr v James DeGale: Reality bites for loser

Updated: 19/11/2024

Who will come out on top in domestic bout?

The British boxing faithful will be locked into ITV Box Office on Saturday 23rd February eagerly anticipating this domestic dust-up between Chris Eubank Jr and James DeGale.

DeGale has labelled this a ‘retirement fight’ and will hope to come out on top and fight for another title.

Eubank Jr responded by rubbishing rumours that he’d throw in the towel if he lost. He wants to give the fans an ‘explosive’ evening.

But the question on everyone’s lips is whether Eubank’s relentlessness will outweigh DeGale’s nous.

We explore how the Hove-born fighter can come of age and rediscover his magic…

The Chris Eubank Jr Experience

Experience. The key word in this fight. You can definitely make it fit to showcase Eubank’s exhausting work-rate.

In his 29 fights to date he’s knocked out 21 of his opponents and is 2/1 to win by KO, TKO or DQ.

But he’s shown in the last four years he’s in it for the long haul, going past the 10th round in six of his last eleven fights.

This included the big win over Arthur Abraham in 2017 and Eubank’s 8/1 to claim victory between round 10 and 12 next month.

A unanimous loss to George Groves stalled his progress, but he is now working under Nate Vasquez – a former coach of Floyd Mayweather.

Eubank is 4/6 to bag the outright win. He will be out to show his relentless approach will be vital, exactly a year on from that loss in Manchester.

His opponent DeGale may be nearing retirement, but the 29-year old from quiet, humble Hove in Sussex wants to prove he can still be a dominant force on the world stage.
