Just two match weeks remain in the Bundesliga before the winter break and Borussia Dortmund are already all-but-assured of top spot going in to 2019. They have the chance to extend their lead this week, though, with the chasing pack facing some tough games.

Last time out we were close to a perfect four-from-four in our predictions. Unfortunately, despite enjoying 60% possession and taking 18 shots, Eintracht Frankfurt failed to score. That gave us three correct tips from four and takes us into another week searching for that elusive winning ACCA.

Hoffenheim vs. Borussia Monchengladbach

Saturday, 15 December, 14:30

A key match in the top four sees Hoffenheim host Gladbach. With Dortmund not in action until later in the day they’ll be cheering on the home side here.

Hoffenheim haven’t lost in eight league games and lie just three points off the Champions League spots. Finishing in the top four will be the perfect parting gift for Julian Nagelsmann to leave when he departs for RB Leipzig. A home win over second-placed BMG would also be great for Naglesmann’s future employers so there’s extra motivation for the boss.

Gladbach have shown uneven away form this term, losing more than they’ve won, but have still scored more away goals than most teams (12 away goals is the fifth highest in the Bundesliga). Add in die Hoffe being the third-highest scorers in the Bundesliga and it’s clear the way we should be looking for our opening bet this weekend.

Borussia Dortmund vs. Werder Bremen

Saturday, 15 December, 17:30

Werder Bremen returned to winning ways last time out against bottom club Fortuna Dusseldorf. That result still doesn’t detract from the fact they’re on a big downward slide of late, with four defeats in five prior to that.

A trip to Borussia Dortmund is not a fixture to inspire a sudden upsurge in form. BVB are still without a home defeat this season, have won five on the spin in the Bundesliga and, if Gladbach do drop points in the earlier kick-off, know they can increase their lead at the top with a victory .

The goals continue to flow for Dortmund, but they’ve been conceding at a fair rate too: six in the last six and nine in seven on home soil this season.

With the form of Marco Reus and Jadon Sancho they should win. The curveball is that Bremen scored in defeats against Leverkusen, Mainz, Gladbach and Bayern Munich. That trend can continue at Signal Iduna Park.

RB Leipzig vs. Mainz 05

Sunday, 16 December, 14:30

Two games on Sunday and both feature in our ACCA, starting with Leipzig. RB have been excellent at home and disappointing away this season, putting more pressure on continuing to rack up the points at Red Bull Arena.

Five wins from seven and 17 goals scored in that time, it’s clear they’ll be favourites once again.

Mainz have performed better lately, but they have been — crucially from their perspective — picking up all their points against bottom-half rivals. Any time a bigger side has come up against them, it has been a straightforward three points.

Leipzig should do exactly that here with a couple of goals into the bargain.

Eintracht Frankfurt vs. Bayer Leverkusen

Sunday, 16 December, 17:00

The final match of the weekend is another that will impact the European places.

Three games without defeat bodes well for Leverkusen, but now comes a bigger test as well as an opportunity. Opponents Eintracht Frankfurt have lost two on the bounce and it certainly feels like they were punching above their weight earlier this season.

A win for Leverkusen mean there will suddenly be just two points between these two teams and that’s despite six places separating them ahead of the weekend’s action.

It might be overly ambitious to suggest Leverkusen will simply go out and get the away win without a problem, but they’ve certainly got every chance of picking up a positive result.
