- European Championship Qualifiers: September 3rd &7th 2010 by Doug Martin
- Thu, 02 Sep 2010 08:10:00 EDT - England won their last game, 2-1 against Hungary at Wembley. The big surprise was the crowd. 60 plus thousand & after the worst World cup performance in living memory. The team do not deserve that support. They now face Bulgaria in their first European Championship Qualifier. Last Time England played Bulgaria was in the Qualifiers for Euro 2000 when under Kevin Keegan England beat Bulgaria 3-1 at home & drew 1-1 away. England were poor that year as well. Since Bulgaria reached the semi finals of the 1994 World cup when they famously beat Germany 2-1 in the Quarter Finals they have not faired well
- Premiership Predictions &Correct Scores for week 3 of the season: Weekend August 28th/29th 2010 by Doug Martin
- Fri, 27 Aug 2010 12:37:00 EDT - Wolves have started the season well. They followed up their 2-1 win against Stoke by drawing at Everton 1-1. They have a tough fixture this Saturday as they face a Newcastle side who recovered well from losing at Manchester United to thrash Aston Villa 6-0. How they managed that I still canÂ’t work out. Anyway, Wolves away should be a difficult game for them & I can see them winning. Wolves as I have said previously should stay up but NewcastleÂ’s season is anybodyÂ’s guess? ShouldnÂ’t go down after the 6-0 win on Sunday thatÂ’s for sure. I reckon that Newcastle will win this game
- Premiership Predictions &Correct Scores for week 2 of the season: 21st - 23rd August 2010 by Doug Martin
- Fri, 20 Aug 2010 10:45:00 EDT - Wolves had a good start to the season by beating Stoke 2-1 on Saturday which was a good result as Stoke are a difficult side to play against, well apart from when they play away against Chelsea. Wolves drew this fixture last season 1-1 which was a good point for them. Wolves away form last season wasnÂ’t too bad with wins at Spurs, Burnley, Wigan & West Ham.
- Premiership Predictions &Correct Scores for the opening day of the season: 14th - 16th August 2010 by Doug Martin
- Fri, 13 Aug 2010 14:29:00 EDT - Bolton should do better under Owen Coyle this season. They did well to pull clear of the relegation zone last season & stay up. At least they will be playing better football than they were under Gary Megson. They face on the opening day a Fulham side who will be gutted that they have lost their manager Roy Hodgson who steered them to two to half finishes in the league & of course The Europa cup final where they were very unlucky to lose to a late goal. FulhamÂ’s way form was not good last season & if my memory serves me right they only won one game & that was at Portsmouth on the opening day of the season.
- World Cup Final Prediction &Correct Score by Doug Martin
- Fri, 09 Jul 2010 05:20:00 EDT - Spain are appearing in their first World Cup final after winning their first ever World cup Semi final 1-0 against Germany on Wednesday Night. I must admit that I do like the way the Spanish play & they did very well in the second half to restrict the Germans to hardly any chances. They did this by simply keeping the ball & passing really well, something they have done more or less the entire tournament. The Germans will have been gutted by losing out at the Semi final stage after surprising everyone with their attacking free flowing football but as they are a young side their time should come again. We will see. The Spanish of course lost their first group game 1-0 to Switzerland but have recovered to win every game since.
- World Cup Semi Final Predictions &Correct Scores by Doug Martin
- Mon, 05 Jul 2010 12:43:00 EDT - Spain missed the second penalty & it took a brilliant piece of football to unlock the Paraguay defence which enabled David Villa to score another goal to put him top scorer in the World Cup. Manchester City fans must be chopping at the bit to see him play for them next season. I do have to say that Germany have played some great football going forward but it will be a question if Spain can get through their defence? Germany have destroyed England (4-1) & Argentina 4-0 but this game could be closer. It is of course a repeat of the 2008 European Championship final which the Spanish won 1-0. The German side they play in this game is a very different one than that of 2008. I think the Germans will win because they look like they are going to win again & that is depressing.
- World Cup Quater Final Predictions &Correct Scores by Doug Martin
- Thu, 01 Jul 2010 07:47:00 EDT - As far as I am concerned this is the best game of the quarter finals & it is not hard to see why with the way both sides are playing. GermanyÂ’s young side destroyed England 4-1 in their last 16 game & donÂ’t be fooled by EnglandÂ’s goal that was wrongly disallowed as Germany would have won 4-2 as they were that much better than England. They had a great attack that EnglandÂ’s defence couldnÂ’t cope with. I blame EnglandÂ’s performance on our bloody media mainly as the pressure they put on the players has had a bad affect. More on that at a latter date. Argentina beat Mexico in their last 16 3-1 as I predicted & played well against a good Mexico side that yet again failed to reach the quarter finals in the world cup. Maybe next time chaps.
- World Cup Predictions Last 16 &Correct Scores by Doug Martin
- Sat, 26 Jun 2010 04:13:00 EDT - The USA qualified top of Group “C” ahead of England by beating Algeria 1-0 with a very late goal. They deserved it & now face Ghana in the knockout stage. Ghana are the only African side to have qualified which will be seen as very disappointing for Africa as a whole. African teams appear to have gone backwoods in this world cup after making such excellent progress since Cameron exploded on the international scene in the 1990 World cup. Ghana may have lost their last group game 1-0 to Germany but they were unlucky & deserved a point. The worry for them will be that in the group games they were only able to draw with Australia. It will be an interesting game & a shame for either side to go out.
- World Cup Predictions Week 3 Part 2 &Correct Scores
- Wed, 23 Jun 2010 06:19:00 EDT - North Korea did well against Brazil in their first game & won a lot of new friends with the way they played, me included but they came back down to earth with a massive bump by losing 7-0 to Portugal. It goes without saying that I predicted North Korea to lose the game beforehand but not by such a big margin. Shame I missed the game as I would have liked to have seen the goals. Ivory Coast went down 3-1 to a useful looking Brazil side who must be as always one of the Favourites for the World Cup. North Korea have nothing to lose in this game as they are out of the World cup as are the Ivory Coast more or less as they are not really going to win this game by a really high margin to overtake Portugal if they lose to Brazil. PortugalÂ’s goals against North Korea have more or less given them an extra point.
- World Cup Predictions &Correct Scores for Week 3 Part 1 by Doug Martin
- Mon, 21 Jun 2010 08:00:00 EDT - This is the other game in group A where a draw will be enough for both sides to qualify. I will not be surprised at all if that is what happens. Both sides look good enough to qualify anyway. Uruguay had a very convincing 3-0 over the hosts South Africa to go with their 0-0 draw with France in their opening game. Mexico look good as well & have been playing the best football in this group as far as I am concerned. They were a tad unlucky to only draw 1-1 with South Africa in their opening game but made up for that slight disappointment to beat France 2-0. This game will either be a 0-0 draw or both sides will go for it & produce a good opening game. Being cynical I am going to predict a 0-0 draw which of course will mean that both sides will go through to the last 16.
- World Cup Predictions &Correct Scores for Week 2 Part 2 by Doug Martin
- Thu, 17 Jun 2010 09:02:00 EDT - If Italy don’t win this game then I am going to wear a T-Shirt saying “I Love Bankers”…Seriously, they should win, Shouldn’t they? Italy as you all know drew 1-1 with Paraguay in their first game which will have been a disappointment to them. At least they played better in the second half & scored a deserved goal to draw. New Zealand must be credited with scoring so late against Slovakia to draw 1-1 when nobody, including myself gave them a chance of drawing let alone scoring a goal. Italy should be far too good for them but they might do a Switzerland. I am going to be arrogant & say that Italy will win & it is just a matter of how many goals they win by. This will be a shame for New Zealand as they are good sportsman & it always a pleasure to speak sport with them
- World Cup Predictions &Correct Scores for Week 2 Part 1 by Doug Martin
- Tue, 15 Jun 2010 11:34:00 EDT - Germany had the best result of the World Cup so far by beating poor Australia 4-0. I shed no tears for Australia as I have met to many arrogant Australians in my life. The way Germany are playing nobody will want to play them in the knockout stages & the way things are going it could be England. O hell not going out to Germany again you all say. Germany now play Serbia who rather surprisingly lost 1-0 to Ghana & must be dreading playing the Germans just as they did in 1941, ha. I donÂ’t know how Germany manage to consistently do well in World Cups but I wish England could just have 10% of their luck as we would win the World cup every time, well almost. To be honest it was nice to see Germany score four goals as the tournament needed a high scoring game.
- World Cup Predictions &Correct Scores for Week 1 Part 2 by Doug Martin
- Wed, 02 Jun 2010 12:27:00 EDT - CanÂ’t see either of these sides getting out of their group. Cameroon have a bad defence which will be exploited by both the Dutch & Denmark. Cameroon didnÂ’t qualify for the last World cup & in fact have not got out of the group stages since their famous run to the quarter finals in 1990 when they were beaten by England. In fact it was defensive mistakes that cost them dear that day in their 3-2 defeat after extra time. CanÂ’t really see Cameroon getting out of this group. Japan played very well in their last warm up game against England when they lost 2-1 & managed to score all the goals. Again It was defensive mistakes that cost them. Japan have never won a World cup match on foreign soil as the only matches they have won in the World cup was when they hosted the finals in 2002.
- World Cup Predictions &Correct Scores for Week 1 Part 1 by Doug Martin
- Wed, 02 Jun 2010 12:28:00 EDT - This is a more interesting game than the Hosts game. These are of course the other two teams in group A. France came runners up in the Last World cup losing to Italy in the Final. This was a vast improvement on their previous world cup in Japan when they went out in the group stages as holders. France were a brilliant side in the late 1990Â’s when they won both the World Cup (1st time) in 1998 & the European Championships in 2000. Since then with the retirement of some great players they have struggled. They of course had to qualify for this world cup through the playoffs at the expense of Ireland. There was a lot of complaints about the goal that France scored against Ireland to go through & rightly so as the goal should have been disallowed because of handball in the build up to the goal. FIFA should have replayed the game

- Playoff Final Prediction &Correct Scores for Division 1 &2 by Doug Martin
- Wed, 26 May 2010 08:20:00 EDT - Rotherham came an easy forth in the final Division 4, err, 2 table while Dagenham just sneaked in on the last day to the playoffs with a win at already relegated Darlington. They made up for the lateness of their playoff confirmation by thrashing poor old Morecombe 6-0 at home in the 1st leg. They eventually went through 7-2 on aggregate. Dagenham have only been in the League 3 seasons, this being their third season. They struggled in their first season but improved last season & only just missed out on a playoff place with defeat to Shrewsbury Town on the last day of the season. This season they have of course gone one better
- Prediction &Correct Score for the Friendly International between Japan - England by Doug Martin
- Wed, 26 May 2010 08:18:00 EDT - Onto the Game e & the last time England played Japan they won 2-1at Wembley in 1995. I can’t see England playing a full strength side as they will be trying a few more players like they did on Monday as it is the last chance for the manager to see some players “Live” before he announces his full squad for the finals themselves which are only a couple of weeks away now. This means a lot of work for myself as I will be doing every game. Japan have also qualified for the World cup finals in South Africa but I don’t think they will go very far.
- Prediction &Correct Score for the Friendly International between England - Mexico by Doug Martin
- Sun, 23 May 2010 12:48:00 EDT - The Wembley pitch must be saying to itself, “Oh no not another game”. England are now playing Mexico in the first of their pre world Cup warm up games. England won their last game 3-1 against Egypt after coming from 1-0 down at half time to win. Mexico have won their last three games & are unbeaten in their last 5 but they played weak teams so the unbeaten run doesn’t count for much in my opinion. England last played Mexico in a friendly eight years ago at Derby’s Pride park Stadium & won easily 4-0. The only competitive game between the two sides was in the 1966 world cup when England ran out 2-0 winners.
- Review of my 2009/2010 Season tips for all 5 English Divisions by Doug Martin
- Wed, 19 May 2010 09:50:00 EDT - I did pretty well in the Premiership as I correctly predicted that Chelsea would win the Title & Manchester United would come runners up. LiverpoolÂ’s demise caught me & just about everyone else out as they could only finish 7th. Spurs were the side who took advantage of their demise. In the relegation fight I correctly predicted two out of the three that went down. The side that caught me out were Portsmouth who of course came bottom because of a points deduction brought about by appalling mismanagement. I suspect that not many people will have predicted PortsmouthÂ’s demise either.
- European Cup Final Prediction Bayern Munich ~ Inter Milan by Doug Martin
- Thu, 13 May 2010 11:25:00 EDT - Bayern Munich are in their first final since 1999 when they famously lost to two very late Manchester United goals & I mean late. Bayern clinched the German League last weekend so it looks like both sides will be Champions of their domestic leagues when they play the final. Bayern have won the trophy 4 times, the last being in 2001 when they beat Spanish side Valencia on penalties. Inter have won it twice, both in the 1960Â’s & in fact this is their first final appearance since 1972. They have however won the UEFA Cup three times since that 1972 defeat. I think that Inter will win this game mainly because of Jose MourinhoÂ’s tactical know how, especially in this years run to the final where he has out thought several teams, most notably Chelsea & Barcelona.
- FA Cup Final Prediction ~ Chelsea - Portsmouth by Doug Martin
- Thu, 13 May 2010 08:05:00 EDT - Chelsea won the title as you all know on Sunday by beating hapless Wigan 8-0. This was the 4th time this season in the League that they had beat someone by seven goals. They now face a Portsmouth side who finished bottom by some distance which wasnÂ’t helped by their points deduction. They have only managed 7 League wins all season yet in the Cup they have been a different side beating (in Order) Coventry after a replay, Sunderland, Southampton, Birmingham & Spurs. I have predicted Portsmouth to lose every single FA Cup tie they have played this season & every single time they have proved me wrong. They are the first side since Brighton in 1982 to reach the Cup final having being relegated. LetÂ’s hope that Portsmouth donÂ’t do what Brighton did & lose the Final 4-0 after a replay.
- Europa League Final Prediction ~ Fulham - Atletico Madrid by Doug Martin
- Wed, 12 May 2010 06:28:00 EDT - I donÂ’t think even Fulham know how they have managed to get to their first final of any description let alone a European final since 1975 when they lost the FA Cup Final as a second Division side to West Ham. Fulham started of their European run in July when they knocked out Lithuanian side FK Vetra. Since then they have knocked out Italian giants Juventus, UEFA Cup Holders Shakhtar Donetsk, German Champions of last season Wolfsburg, & of course Hamburg who would have been playing the final on their own ground if they had beat Fulham in the Semi Finals. Fulham also had to get through a difficult group stage where they had to play Italian side AS Roma who are neck & neck with Inter Milan in the battle for The Italian Title
- Premiership Predictions &Correct Scores for the 9th May 2010: (Last Fixtures of the Season) by Doug Martin
- Thu, 06 May 2010 14:49:00 EDT - Chelsea should secure the title by winning this very winnable game against Wigan. In the return fixture before Christmas Wigan inflicted on Chelsea their first defeat of the season by beating them 3-1. I really canÂ’t see a repeat of that scoreline in this game. Chelsea made sure of keeping the title in their own hands by beating Liverpool away 2-0 as I predicted. United kept themselves in the race by winning at Sunderland. ChelseaÂ’s home form this season has been very good with only the one defeat to Manchester City & only one draw against Everton. They have also had some big wins
