Tue, 02 March 2010 13:35:00 GMT - Fulham are doing well again this season. They are through to the next round of the UEFA Cup after an arrogate victory last week. They now face an in form Spurs side in the Quarter finals of the FA cup. The two sides drew 0-0 over Christmas at Craven Cottage. I sense a similar result in this game. Fulham improved their away record with a 0-0 draw away at Sunderland on Sunday. They are neatly placed in mid-table now. Spurs meanwhile .... Tue, 23 Febuary 2010 14:25:00 GMT - Birmingham lost for the third away game on the trot on Sunday, this time at Fulham 2-1. I predicted this result so I am feeling rather smug. Birmingham are however, still in the FA Cup & despite this hiccup in their away form they are still having a bloody great season, well above expectations. They won their last home game 2-1 against wolves & will be hoping for a similar result in this game against another side from the .... Tue, 23 Febuary 2010 14:25:00 GMT - Aston Villa are having a good season & they have proved this by reaching the League Cup Final. They are also battling for 4th place in the premiership & are also still in the FA Cup not withstanding an FA Cup replay against Crystal Palace which they should win. Manchester United are also battling on several fronts. They are second in the table & are still in the Champions League after a great 3-2 away win against .... Thu, 18 Febuary 2010 13:15:00 GMT - Everton have slowly improved in the last two months & proved that with victory over Chelsea in their last league game. They followed that up with victory over Sporting Lisbon in their UEFA Cup tie on Tuesday by two goals to one. They could however, regret conceding a late penalty come the end of the second leg. Everton lost easily at Old Trafford in the reverse fixture earlier in the season. They will be looking for a reversal of fortune in Saturday’s game & I think they are more .... Tue, 16 Febuary 2010 16:18:00 GMT - Bolton are in danger of getting relegated as are Wigan & this makes this match a right relegation battle. Wigan are slightly better off as they are 16th but only two points better off than Bolton. Bolton drew at home with Spurs in the Cup 1-1 on Sunday, which in it self is not a bad result. I suspect they will lose the replay but more important to them is staying up. The same applies for Wigan & this is what makes .... Fri, 12 Febuary 2010 13:22:00 GMT - Chelsea lost rather surprisingly at Everton on Wednesday 2-1 which was a bad result for them. Everton also missed a penalty, so the score line could have been worse for Chelsea. The good news for them is that they are still top (just) from Manchester United who could only draw at Aston Villa 1-1. Chelsea now face Championship side Cardiff City who are in a playoff position after beating Peterborough 2-0 at .... Tue, 09 Febuary 2010 10:45:00 GMT - Manchester City had a really bad result by losing at Hull 2-1. This was their forth defeat of the season in the league (all of them away). Coupled with their league cup semi final defeat to Manchester United it has not been a good couple of weeks for the Blue half of the city. Thankfully City’s home form is good as they haven’t lost at home all season (in all competitions). They face a Bolton side who could only .... Wed, 03 Febuary 2010 15:35:00 GMT - Manchester United have returned to form which I find bloody depressing. They had a great 3-1 win at Arsenal on Sunday which in my mind makes the title race a two horse race between Chelsea & Manchester United. United are now only 1 point behind Chelsea but Chelsea play their game in hand away to Hull on Tuesday which I expect them to win. Portsmouth are five points adrift at the bottom of the table after losing at Manchester City 2-0 on Sunday .... Sun, 30 January 2010 11:21:00 GMT - Burnley are in freefall & the last club they needed to plat right now is Chelsea who are bang on form. Burnley lost at Bolton 1-0 on Tuesday, a result which has placed them in the relegation zone, a place I fear they are finish come the end of the season. This I’m afraid is down to Burnley’s board as I have previously mentioned. Chelsea are on fire at .... Wed, 26 January 2010 10:13:00 GMT - West ham won the return fixture 2-0 on Boxing day which was a massive victory for them. Since then Portsmouth have only won in the FA Cup beating Coventry after a replay and Sunderland on Saturday. This is virtually unimportant to them as they are in such a pickle at the bottom of the table that they need to start winning soon in order to try & stay up. I don’t think they will. West Ham have new owners in .... Wed, 20 January 2010 18:44:00 GMT - Preston have a new manager in Darren Ferguson & will be hoping in his second game in charge that he can perform a shock by knocking Chelsea the holders out of the cup. In his first game in charge on Saturday they lost 4-2 at Bristol City, not a very good start. Presently Preston are 17th in the table after a bad run of form that has seen them only win once in the past 11 league games. However, they did .... Wed, 20 January 2010 18:44:00 GMT - Arsenal made it eight games unbeaten in the league since they lost at Home to Chelsea in late November by beating tonight’s opponents Bolton 2-0 away. They have won six of those eight games and as both Manchester United & Chelsea have dropped more points than them they have moved to within three points of Chelsea & two of Manchester United.... Fri, 15 January 2010 09:05:00 GMT - Burnley have appointed ex Sheffield Wednesday boss Brian Laws as manager. This is a dreadful appointment as he will take them down. He was on the verge of taking Sheffield Wednesday down from the Championship so why on earth should he do better at Burnley? They have Manchester United away in his first game & I can’t really see them getting anything from this game despite Manchester United’s average form over the last month or so. United of course scrapped a.... Sat, 09 January 2010 11:01:00 GMT - Birmingham are on a great run, they won at Stoke 1-0 in their last league game which keeps them in 8th just four points behind Manchester City in 5th place. They are still in the cup having survived a tough game away at in form Nottingham Forest. Can they keep their unbeaten league run going against Manchester United? Birmingham are .... Fri, 28 December 2009 13:35:00 GMT - Arsenal had a great 3-0 victory over Aston Villa on Sunday to take them within four points of Chelsea at the top & with a game in hand. Arsenal are not firing on all cylinders but the top two dropping points means that they are right in there with a chance of winning the title. They are now unbeaten in their last five league games, winning four of them but importantly beating Liverpool (away) & Aston Villa in that run .... Fri, 25 December 2009 17:44:00 GMT - Spurs followed up their great 3-0 victory over Manchester City with a very good 2-0 away win at Blackburn who hadn’t lost at home since the opening day of the season (against Manchester City). Spurs still behind Aston Villa in the table in 5th position but they are only two points behind them. If only they hadn’t missed that last minute penalty at Everton. Fulham had a great result against Manchester United in .... Sat, 19 December 2009 11:01:00 GMT - City had a bad defeat at Spurs in midweek which followed hot on the heels of their 3-3 draw against Bolton away. These dropped points mean they have now dropped to 8th in the table. They need to start winning again as they have only won once in ten league games. Sunderland meanwhile are on a mini bad run having lost at home to Aston Villa in midweek after they could only draw at home to .... Sat, 12 December 2009 10:38:00 GMT - Manchester City ended their long run of unbeaten drawn games to beat Chelsea at Home last weekend. A great result which came on the back of their 3-0 League Cup victory over Arsenal to put them in the Semi Finals of a major cup competition since 1981 (I think?). They came from behind to beat Chelsea which showed a lot of courage in my view. City are now 6th, only two points behind Spurs in 4th place. Along with Villa, it is going to be a very interesting battle between these clubs .... Mon, 07 December 2009 22:11:00 GMT - Arsenal have qualified (as I predicted) after they beat Standard Liege 2-0 at home last time out. They got back to winning ways in the Premiership beating Stoke City 2-0 easily at the weekend. This result was needed after they had lost at Sunderland & at home to Chelsea. This seems to be Arsenal’s problem in that they lose to the top sides & yet regally beat the others. If they could find a way of competing against the top four then they would win everything in sight.... Sat, 05 December 2009 11:40:00 GMT - West ham had a great victory last week beating Burnley 5-3, a result which dragged them out of the bottom three and they are now above Bolton by a massive two points. West Ham have now scored eight goals in two games but their defence is letting them down. It’s all right conceding three goals against Hull & Burnley each but when you are playing Manchester United It’s not a good omen. Manchester United.... Tue, 27 November 2009 15:38:00 GMT - You don’t need reminding what Wigan did in their last game. A disgrace by most accounts. Too lose 8-1 in any game is bad let alone at Spurs who are no World beaters by any stretch of the imagination. Sunderland on the other hand had a great result beating Arsenal. Sunderland’s away record is mixed with defeats at Birmingham & Burnley alone with a draw at Old Trafford (the only side to do so in the.... Tue, 24 November 2009 13:00:00 GMT - Chelsea have already qualified from their group so I wouldn’t be surprised if they take their foot off the pedal so to speak in this game. Porto have also qualified and so this game is difficult to predict. Porto are third in their domestic League after losing 1-0 away at the weekend. They are only Five points behind surprise leaders Braga & second placed Benfica. Chelsea are of course top of the Premiership.... Wed, 25 November 2009 13:32:00 GMT - Hull managed a good draw on Saturday against West Ham in a 3-3 draw & that despite the fact they were 2-0 down early in the first half. The sending off of Frenchman Mendy’s proved crucial in them only drawing I feel. I think they will win on Wednesday as Everton are on bad run themselves., worse than Hull that’s for sure. Everton have only won once in their last nine games.... Fri, 20 November 2009 08:28:00 GMT - 990 when an early Gary LinkerThis is a rather easy game to predict I feel. Chelsea have won all their home games so far in all competitions & Wolves have only won the once away from home (Wigan). To be fair Wolves have had a good couple of draws away at Everton & in their last away game at Stoke when they came from 2-0 down at Half Time to draw 2-2. I think that Wolves are just going to stay up this season but they are onto a hiding.... Fri, 13 November 2009 11:52:00 GMT - England last played Brazil in a friendly in 2007 when Brazil grabbed a late goal to earn a 1-1 draw. Such is England’s luck against Brazil. They have only ever beaten Brazil three times in 22 attempts. Their three victories have all come in friendly matches. The last victory was in 1990 when an early Gary Linker goal earned England a 1-0 victory just prior to the world cup of that year. England have played them seven times since then, losing three & drawing four.... Sun, 08 November 2009 12:42:00 GMT - West Ham won for the 1st time since the opening day of the season on Wednesday, a result that took them out of the bottom three. Everton are on a bad run after having a good run. They haven’t won in four during a run that has seen them go out of the league cup (2-0 at Spurs), lose 5-0 to Benfica in Europe (their worst ever result in Europe).... Mon, 02 November 2009 17:39:00 GMT - Rangers lost 4-1 at home last time out after I predicted they would win a close game 2-1. They did not help themselves by missing a penalty when the score was 1-1 & then scoring two own goals!!! Well done lads, that is really great, not. They will obviously try & recover some lost pride in the return fixture but they are playing so dreadful in Europe that I can’t see them winning a throw inn let alone the match.... Fri, 30 October 2009 11:24:00 GMT - Liverpool bounced back from a very bad run by beating Manchester United 2-0 last Sunday & they deserved the win as it was no fluke. So with Torres back & scoring will Liverpool be able to take their form from last Sunday into this game? I think they will because they are a different side with Torres & Gerhard playing. Fulham did well last week in coming from behind to draw at Manchester City, something I didn’t think they would do. Liverpool to win but Fulham will make it hard for them.... Tue, 20 October 2009 09:52:00 GMT - Rangers got thumped in their last Champions League game 4-1 by Sevilla at home. Coupled with their draw in their other Champions League game this means that they need the three points against Romanian champions Unirea Urziceni at Ibrox on Tuesday night. Last season Unirea won their first ever domestic title & so obviously this is there first appearance in the champions league. They lost their first game against Sevilla 2-0 away & then drew 1-1 with Stuttgart.... Sat, 17 October 2009 11:43:00 GMT - A difficult one to predict this fixture. Chelsea beat Liverpool in their previous fixture to recover from their first defeat of the season against Wigan. Villa meanwhile drew at home with Manchester City after they had lost their own unbeaten run at Blackburn the week before. Villa have done well in recent years against Chelsea at Villa Park. Last season Chelsea won at Villa Park (1-0) but had failed to do so in their previous five visits, losing1 & drawing 4.... Thurs, 07 October 2009 11:48:00 GMT - We now enter the final straight in qualifying games & it will be interesting to see who will join England in South Africa. I Predicted right at the start of the Qualifying games that Northern Ireland & the Republic would join England. Lets see if I am proved right. Onwards & upwards, good luck. Ukraine - England: (Saturday 10th October 4.15pm): 2. England - Belarus: (Wednesday 14th October 8pm): This is a tough one in that England.... Fri, 02 October 2009 13:31:00 GMT - Hull are on a dreadful run. They have only won once all season (against Bolton) & were thrashed last week 6-1 at Liverpool. This result followed their 4-0 home defeat to Everton in the League cup. Their Manager has lost the plot & much of their current problems can be traced back to when the manager dressed down his team on the pitch at half time last Boxing day against Manchester City. That was a silly thing to as it will.... Fri, 25 September 2009 12:21:00 GMT - This is just about the easiest game I have had to predict for a long time. As far as I am concerned Hull City are destined for the drop, unless they change their manager who I feel has run out of ideas. They have won only won game so far and that was against fellow struggler's Bolton. Last Saturday they lost a very important game at home to Birmingham City. Liverpool since their early season defeats to Spurs... Sat, 19 September 2009 19:01:00 GMT - Arsenal showed some real character in coming from two nil down to beat Standard Liege in their last game. Hopefully they can continue that form in the Premiership. Olympiakos beat the Dutch side Az Alkmaar 1-0 on the same night. They have had a reasonable start to their domestic league but it is early days yet as they have only played half the games that Arsenal Have played in the Premiership... Wed, 16 September 2009 20:01:00 GMT - Arsenal have had two bad results on the bounce and need to react quickly if they are to get their season back on track. Their defence is seems to be letting them down. Wigan meanwhile gained a very welcome three points last Saturday against West Ham which was their first since the opening day of the season against Aston Villa. Arsenal to bounce back but their defence will concede a goal... Fri, 10 September 2009 15:24:00 GMT - Liverpool bounced back from their shock 3-1 home defeat to Aston Villa to win at Bolton 3-2 in their last game. Liverpool have lost two games already this season after only losing one in the whole of last season (how did they manage that?). They can’t afford to lose many more but I’m afraid they will before the season is out but not this Saturday against Burnley. Burnley got thrashed at Chelsea 3-0 in their last game & I can see their away form being the difference between.. Fri, 04 September 2009 12:24:00 GMT - Onto the more important game on Wednesday night when England host Croatia at Wembley. As we all know England beat Croatia 4-1 away earlier in the group, which nailed down any concerns England fans may have had about their side qualifying for South Africa next Summer. It was only last year that England lost 2-3 at home to Croatia & in so doing lost out on qualifying for Euro 2008. Fri, 28 August 2009 18:45:00 GMT - Bolton have had a bad start as have Liverpool. Bolton's defeat at Hull last Saturday was a bad result. Hull will probably go down this season & if Bolton aren't careful then they will join them. Liverpool are in minor trouble. They have lost two games already & to be honest I can't see them doing as well as last season. They will, however, bounce back at Sat, 22 August 2009 12:45:00 GMT - Liverpool play Aston Villa on Monday night for the pleasure of the TV. Should make all their part-time fans down the pub happy. Despite losing to Spurs on the opening day I expect Liverpool to have beaten stoke on Wednesday night and further improve with a draw against the Villa. Seriously, I expect a draw in this one. In my point of view Liverpool Sat, 15 August 2009 12:45:00 GMT - Manchester city as everyone knows are now the richest club in the land. They have brought some impressive players in the pre season but it will take time for the team to gel & this will prevent them from reaching the top four. This is good if like me you can’t stand the big three, i.e., Liverpool, Manchester United, Chelsea. I think City will just fail to get into the top four this. Tues, 11 August 2009 12:45:00 GMT - Another predictable top four in the Premiership I’m afraid with Chelsea replacing Manchester United at the top of the greed tree. Really big surprise that the top three clubs are all owned by unpleasant people. Who says that money attracts crap, err, me. Too early for Manchester City to break into the top four yet but next season I suspect they will at the expense of Arsenal. Tues, 11 August 2009 12:45:00 GMT - I feel that WBA have the players & with the impetus of a new manager will bounce straight back. Wether they will stay up the following season is a rather more difficult question. After losing the playoff final last season I feel that Sheffield United will come runners up. This I feel is the only way they are going to go up rather then through the playoffs because they will never. Tues, 11 August 2009 12:45:00 GMT - There is no way that Leeds are going to go up through the playoffs unless Australia win the 4th test by an innings, opps. Seriously, this year they are going to go up. Millwall looked good in large spells last season & were unlucky to not go up through the playoffs. This year under Kenny Jacket I expect them to go one better. Of the three big clubs to have come down, Charlton Tues, 11 August 2009 12:45:00 GMT - A five nil thrashing of Bradford in their first game bodes well for Notts County & I think they will benefit from a massive injection of confidence with the arrival of Sven. Bournemouth did really well to stay up last year after their point’s deduction. They will carry on their fine form and claim promotion. Rotherham are another club who did bloody well despite a points Tues, 11 August 2009 12:45:00 GMT - I will be amazed if Luton fail to get promotion. They shouldn’t even be in the conference & wouldn’t if it wasn’t for the nastiness of the football authorities in punishing them for the misdemeanours of a bunch of tosspots. Oxford had a really good second half of the season & again if they hadn’t of had point deductions would have made the playoffs. Fri, 05 June 2009 12:07:00 GMT - On June 6th England play Kazakhstan away. England beat this lot 5-1 at Wembley last October after the game was 0-0 at half time. I expect England to win reasonably easily but they might get a few scares & so don’t expect them to be drawing 0-0 again at half time. Tues, 19 May 2009 13:38:00 GMT - Stoke City have done really well to stay up this season. I tipped them to go down but they have proved me & a lot of other people wrong. Good luck to them. Arsenal, meanwhile have had a bad season in comparison in the League. They have done reasonably well against the other top teams but it is against the lesser sides that they have dropped too many points. The 2-0 defeat to Hull City being a good example. Tues, 12 May 2009 17:41:00 GMT - Manchester United on the other hand are closing in on the title despite Liverpool taking them to the wire. If United are going to lose the title, then this is the game that they will mess up in. Sadly, I feel they have the experience and the momentum not to mention the, err, referee’s backing in the run in. sorry Liverpool fans but maybe next season. Sun, 03 May 2009 11:54:00 GMT - Juventus in third place are at home to Lecce who are second from bottom and looking like they will be relegated. Lecce are one of those sides like Leicester City in England who you are never sure which division they are in, such is their history travelling between Serie A & Serie B. An easy 3-0 win for “The Old Lady”. Thurs, 30 Apr 2009 12:43:00 GMT - Portsmouth will stay up, mainly because there are poorer teams in the premiership than them this season. They have been on the decline since Harry Rednap left and the appointment of Tony Adams didn’t help at all (did they look at his record at Wycombe?) , however Portsmouth proved in their midweek draw at Newcastle that they have too much for the teams below them Mon, 27 Apr 2009 18:00:00 GMT - On Saturday Manchester United were two nil down at home to Tottenham Hotspur when Michael Carrick was tackled fairly by Tottenham’s Huerelho Gomes, unbelievably Referee Howard Webb gave a penalty. It was the turning point, not only in the game but also in the Premiership as well. Manchester United went on to win 5-2 but there is little doubt that in my mind Sat, 18 Apr 2009 07:55:00 EST - It seems apt at this time on the 20th anniversary of the “Hillsborough Disaster” to be discussing safe standing at football matches. The fact is that there is safe standing at football matches, just not in the Premiership & Championship, well apart from Cardiff City, who are moving to a new ground Sat, 18 Apr 2009 07:06:00 EST - In 1986 I travelled by train to watch Wolves play Tranmere Rovers in a forth Division game at Molineux, Wolves home ground. The whole day cost me around £12, which included train ticket, ground admission (we paid on the day at the turnstiles in those days), programme & food. I might have brought some fags Mon, 13 Apr 2009 17:25:00 EST - For 27 years I have followed and watched My Football team. I now fear that is about to end. York City have ironically reached Wembley in the FA Trophy but are staring relegation in the face after losing at GrayÂ’s Athletic one nil last Saturday (4th April) with a pathetic performance even by recent standards Sat, 11 Apr 2009 09:04:00 EST - In December 1986 I travelled from York to watch Newcastle play Nottingham Forest in a 1st Division Game. I had never been to NewcastleÂ’s ground before nor had I seen either team play before but the main reason I was going to the game was to see “Brain CloughÂ’s” Nottingham Forest play. I went into the ground early and stood on the terrace under their old main stand Fri, 03 Apr 2009 13:27:00 EST - My Earliest memory of a football match on TV is the 1976 FA Cup Final in which Second Division Southampton and a Bobby Stokes goal beat Hot Favourites Manchester United one nil. I remember watching the game with my father and him being pleased with the outcome because Southampton Fri, 20 Mar 2009 13:57:00 EST - The biggest problem for England is the press. A small handful of journalists who make out that they represent the countryÂ’s football supporters with their appalling and bias reporting. They expect England to win every game 5-0 and play like the Brazil of 1970 Fri, 20 Mar 2009 13:03:00 EST - Next Sat (28th March) England play at Wembley against Slovakia in a friendly match. This game is obviously being played in preparation for the World cup qualifier against Ukraine the following Wednesday. I expect England to win both games Wed, 18 Mar 2009 10:22:00 EST - expect Arsenal to beat Hull City at home in their delayed Quarter final tie. Hull are having a very bad second half to the season & until they won at Fulham last week had not won since mid December when they beat Middlesbrough and look Wed, 18 Mar 2009 10:21:00 EST - Four of these clubs (Half of those left) are from England. This means that the spending power of the Premiership is far greater than the other European leagues and not as some journalists would have you believe because English clubs are simply better Wed, 18 Mar 2009 10:04:00 EST - I think Ajax will play and beat Galatasaray in the final. My reasons for this are because Ajax are not having a good season in the league and are 14 points behind leaders AZ Alkmaar in third place but in Europe they have been playing better Mon, 09 Mar 2009 09:48:00 EST - Way back in August I submitted an article for my predictions for the forthcoming season. As we approach the finishing line I thought it might be interesting to see how my predictions are shaping up or not as the case might be. Sun, 03 Aug 2008 09:48:00 EST - Arsenal can feel themselves very hard done by last season.. They were beaten by Liverpool in the champions league by the refereeÂ’s penalty decisions and they would have won the Premiership if not for the injury to Eduardo Sun, 03 Aug 2008 09:48:00 EST - Sheffield United won one award last season, "The worst managerial appointment of the season award". This cost them at least a playoff place. Due to a great run in they only just missed a playoff place Sun, 03 Aug 2008 09:48:00 EST - Leeds United and their large support will win this division with ease I feel. If they donÂ’t then they will still be moaning about the fifteen point deduction last season which cost them promotion. Sun, 03 Aug 2008 09:48:00 EST - Bradford City improved in the second half of last season and coupled with a manager who actually shares the passion of the fans I think they will go up. Also a great idea of the club to have such cheap season tickets Sun, 03 Aug 2008 08:48:00 EST - Cambridge United will be one of a handful of ex league clubs that will be vying for promotion back to the league. 5th division anyone? Cambridge will pip the others after last years heartbreak in the playoffs Sun, 03 Aug 2008 08:48:00 EST - Arsenal can feel themselves very hard done by last season.. They were beaten by Liverpool in the champions league by the refereeÂ’s penalty decisions and they would have won the Premiership if not for the injury to Eduardo. The loss of several players will harm their chances ![]() |
