Silver Salver semi-final Best Bets & preview for Sunday 12/07/2020.

It's semi-final time at Central Park as the next heats of the Colosus Bets Kent Silver salver competition heat up.

The opening six heats took place at the Sittingbourne venue last weekend and there is an added bonus for competitors taking part in the competition which dates back to 1933.

Colossus Bets founder Bernard Marantelli is offering a bonus of £10,000 on top of the £3,000 first prize for any dog that remains unbeaten throughout the Category Two event.

The three-round event is run over a distance of 265m and there are three semi-final races on Sunday. The first two dogs in the three heats will qualify for the grand final back at the track on Sunday, July 19.

You can watch all of the action live on Racing Post Greyhound TV, a channel which is accessible on Sky (channel 175), Freesat (channel 176) and Freeview (channel 264). All of the action is also available to be live-streamed via a number of bookmaker apps which give you the opportunity to watch all of the action literally at your fingertips. You don't even have to have a bet as with the new Watch & Bet initiative, all you need to do is login to your bookmaker account and you can watch every race for free.

All 12 races on Sunday are Open Races which are essentially the highest quality of greyhound action. This also allows dogs who may be trained at other tracks to run in these events because of the quality of the racing.

We've previewed the card and offered up our best bets of the card.

We fired in 15/8, 3/1 and 7/2 winners last Sunday. We're hungry for more success this time around and are looking to be quick out of the traps with a number of fancies at the meeting.

6:28: Central Park: Roxholme Biscuit (Trap Three). The son of Kinloch Brae looks to hold leading claims here. He has looked very smooth over his hurdles in three runs this term and if he performs anywhere near that level in this event, then he will be jumping for joy.

6:43: Central Park: Ballymac Osby (Trap Two). This is a fascinating event with none of the runners having any form over this distance. However, whilst disappointing in his last two starts, Ballymac Osby looks as if he is crying out for a step up in trip and this could be the making of him despite trap two maybe not being ideal.

6.58: Ballynabee Jet (Trap Five). This lad has shown rapid pace from the traps of late and looks to have been given a beautiful draw in trap five. He posted an excellent trial time earlier this month and if pinging the lids, he could prove tough to peg back.

7:18: View King (Trap Five). It was hard not to be impressed the son of Fernando Bale who is unbeaten in his last two starts at the track. He posted an excellent time when scoring on his latest outing and can handle the step up to Open grade in his stride.

7:38: Silver Salver Heat One: Shrewd Call (Trap Three). You need to make the right call in the opening Silver Salver Heat. Dave Mullins' Shrewd Call was a sensational winner last week, posting a deadly time and has been well drawn in trap three here. He makes plenty of appeal and is the bet of the night given his progressive nature.

7:58: Queen Jessiej (Trap Two). This is all about the Queen. Forget about the price tag, this daughter of Leamaneigh Turbo bolted up in an Open Race last week by five lengths and he is simply unopposable on the back of that win.

8:17: Silver Savler Heat Two: Coolavanny Dylan (Trap Three). Make sure you keep it cool in heat two of the Silver Salver. He failed to ping the lids last week, but still managed to record a short-head win on his first proper start at the track. He looks sure to come on a bundle for that run and has a good draw here.

8:36: Troy Firebird (Trap Five). It's all about the Firebird here. He was an emphatic winner at the track last week and looked at home with the undulations of the course. A reproduction of that effort will see him go very close and his draw in trap four again looks ideal.

8:54: Silver Salver Heat Three: Grays Cup Winner (Trap Five). A son of Tyrur Big Mike, he represents up and coming young trainer Nathan Hunt. Some of his rivals could cause a few problems on the inside and this draw in trap five might just work out nicely. He was a good second last time out and the 2018 Romford Puppy Cup winner can hopefully show rapid pace and prove hard to peg back in this semi-final.

9:12: Romford: Droopys Trawler (Trap Three). A contest between Droopys Trawler and Turnhouse Jet in trap four. The former posted a faster time last time out and arguably brings the slightly better form to the table. If he avoids trouble and jumps well, he makes appeal as the most likely winner.

Silver Salver outright selections

We are at the semi-final stage of the Colossus Bets Silver Salver competition and now might be the right time to back a dog to win the competition outright if you can find some value. He may be the 3/1 market leader but Shrewd Call looks to hold leading claims of scooping the £3,000 prize. He was ultra-impressive last week and his time suggests there is plenty more to come from this exciting dog. He looks to be in arguably the weaker of the three semi-finals and with another win on Sunday, his price could turn out to be very short for the final on July 19. With that in mind, back him at 3/1 now to win the competition outright.

At an each-way price, Nathan Hunt is a trainer on the up and Grays Cup Winner makes appeal at 8/1. He was second in his opening heat and looks like he will benefit plenty from that first outing. He has a tough semi-final draw, but has the class to come through and 8/1 is too big a price at this stage of the event.

Outright Silver Salver fancies:

Shrewd Call 3/1

Grays Cup Winner (E/W) 8/1
