Tommy Fleetwood says he has been feeling at ease “constantly” at the Arnold Palmer Invitational as he looks for his first PGA Tour win.
Tommy Fleetwood (pictured at British Masters media day) is hoping to finally get over the line on the PGA Tour after moving into a share of the lead at the halfway stage of the Arnold Palmer Invitational (Fleetwood 11/5 Outright Betting).
The 28-year-old followed up an opening 69 with a six-under par 66 on Friday to reach -9 and share the top of the leaderboard with US star Keegan Bradley (7/2).
The Ryder Cup ace mixed four birdies with two eagles and two bogeys at Bay Hill and is in prime position to strike over the weekend.
Fleetwood and Bradley have a four-shot lead over the field and the man from Southport is looking to keep it up over the next 36 holes.
“Hopefully, I can continue to play well around here,” he said. “It was just nice to have a day like that and just constantly feel at ease, really, with hitting good golf shots.”
Good friend Francesco Molinari (18/1) is in a group of six players tied for third on five-under par while English trio Matt Wallace (60/1), Eddie Pepperell (80/1) and Matthew Fitzpatrick (50/1) sit another shot back alongside five others.
Bubba Watson (30/1) and Patrick Reed (25/1) also reached -4 after Friday’s second round but defending champion Rory McIlroy (18/1) struggled to a 70 and, at -2, has a lot of work to do to bridge the gap to the leaders.
Fleetwood will try to push ahead on ‘moving day’ and, having come close to getting inside the winner’s circle in recent times, the world number 14 now wants to get the job done to tick another box in his blossoming career.
“I’ve done a lot of good things over the last two, three years,” he added. “That would be the next logical step to win in America or win on the PGA Tour and then see where we go from there.”
Odds subject to change.
