NFL Week 2: Saints face Rams in the game of the week on Sunday

The biggest game of the weekend comes from Los Angeles on Sunday as we see a rematch of the NFC Championship Game from last season as the Rams welcome the Saints.

The same day Green Bay and Minnesota both go into their clash having won their first games of the season so something will have to give as Aaron Rodgers looks to kick-start the Packer’s offence after a pretty blunt display in Chicago last week.

Meanwhile, Dallas will be hoping that Ezekiel Elliot can put all the contract hype behind him and start performing on the field as the Cowboys face the Redskins in what is traditionally an entertaining matchup.

Green Bay vs Minnesota, Sunday, 18:00

Sunday afternoon sees the Minnesota Vikings head to Lambeau Field to take on divisional rivals, The Green Bay Packers and on the back of opening round victories, both teams will be looking to cement their place at the top of the NFC North Division.

Green Bay will be looking to build on the solid foundations laid against the Bears last week with Aaron Rodgers never really got the offence firing but he didn’t need to.

The Packers defence were possessed, limiting the Bears to a mere field goal as well as forcing them to punt the ball eight times, that’s more than any game the Bears played last season, so if they are to come away with the win on Sunday, Rodgers and the Packers’ offence must do more.

The Vikings head to Lambeau Field full of confidence after their offence ran riot over the Atlanta Falcons in a game was dominated by the Vikings running game with Dalvin Cook being the standout player and with 21 carries for 111 yards and 2 touchdowns he looks sure to have a big say in the outcome of this game.

Amazingly the Vikings only attempted 10 passes last week which is only the third time in the last decade a team has thrown the ball 10 or less times in a game. It will be interesting to see if they adopt the same approach on Sunday against a Packers defence which nullified the Bears running game last week.

This early season encounter will tell us a lot about the NFC North and potential play off aspirations and I’m going for an away win with the Vikings offence coming out on top in a close match up.

New Orleans vs Los Angeles, Sunday, 21;25

The Saints head to LA on the back of a thriller against Houston last week. One point down with 37 seconds to go and only one time out is not an ideal situation to be in, although when you have Drew Brees it’s less of an issue.

Brees drove the team down the field and got them into field goal range with ease, but he will have to be at his very best this week as The Rams defence will be all over him.

Dante Fowler of the Rams made two tackles, two sacks and hit the QB three times against the Panthers last week and when you add the explosive Aaron Donaldson to the mix, you get the feeling they are going after Brees from the first snap.

On the other side of the ball, Jared Goff will look to dictate the game with a well balanced offence as, gainst the Panthers last week, Goff hit 6 different receivers as well as giving Todd Gurley plenty of the ball with 14 carries for 97 yards.

This will be a close match up but I am going to keep faith with the Rams at home this week to come out on top in a high scoring game.

 Dallas vs Washington, Sunday, 18:00 

All the offseason talk surrounding the Dallas Cowboys was focused on star running back Ezekiel Elliot’s mega money deal and needless to say all eyes were on him last week as he took to the field having only returned to camp earlier that week; however he only carried the ball 13 times for 53 yards and had a relatively quiet game.

A lot has been made of whether the Cowboys could cope without Elliot and whether quarter back Dak Prescott was up to the task of taking the Cowboys to the Superbowl in February and last week he answered those critics emphatically with over 400 yards passing for 4 touchdowns while offence looked unplayable and The Giants didn’t really stand a chance.

This week the Cowboys head to Washington to take on the Redskins who, at one-point last week, looked like pulling of an early season shock as they led the Eagles by 17-0; only for Carson Wentz to show what he is of and lead the Eagles to a 32-27 victory.

This week I feel it will be very one sided with The Cowboys just having far too much offensive power for the Redskins and if Prescott turns up in the same sort of form as last week, I expect the Cowboys to win this convincingly.

TREBLE OF THE WEEK

I’m backing the Cowboys to do well this season so a win over the Redskins looks a certainty for me while I can see the Vikings having too much for Green Bay who failed to impress me last week against the Bears.

By for the game which I’m looking forward to most is the Rams versus the Saints and, although it’s bound to be a tight affair I’m going to stick my neck out and go for a Los Angeles victory.
