Two poor results in the space of a week means that Tottenham have fallen behind Liverpool and Manchester City’s pace in the Premier League. Back-to-back defeats against Burnley and Chelsea have seen Mauricio Pochettino’s side pulled back within arm’s reach of fourth-placed Arsenal, who will have ambitions of clambering to within a point of their local rivals with a win in the North London derby in Saturday’s early kick-off.

Unai Emery’s side will be feeling confident after hammering Bournemouth by a 5-1 scoreline at the Emirates midweek, adding to their comfortable wins against BATE Borisov and Southampton over the course of the last 10 days. Sitting in the final Champions League spot at the expense of a resurgent Manchester United, the Gunners’ fate is in their own hands for now. Victory on Saturday would be another big step towards making a race for third a distinct possibility.

Here’s everything you need to know ahead of the crunch match at Wembley this weekend:

Team news and expected line-ups

Pochettino has admitted recently that Dele Alli is now being assessed on a day-by-day basis after partially recovering from a hamstring injury. The England international is expected to return to action in March, with the target probably likely to be Spurs’ Champions League second-leg game against Borussia Dortmund.

Eric Dier has been suffering from tonsillitis this week, which should rule the utility man out of action, while Jan Vertonghen missed the midweek defeat to Chelsea with a hip problem. The ex-Ajax defender will likely miss out at the weekend too. After struggling on Wednesday evening, Pochettino could be tempted to return to a three-man central defence made up of Toby Alderweireld, Davinson Sanchez and Juan Foyth. Erik Lamela was disappointing out on the right flank, too, which could see a return to the starting eleven for Brazilian forward Lucas Moura.

Arsenal captain Laurent Koscielny picked up a knock at the Emirates on Wednesday evening, but Emery is hopeful that the Frenchman will be fit to play a part at Wembley after having a few days to recover. The experienced central defender is the only fresh injury concern for the away side, given that the likes of Hector Bellerin, Rob Holding and Danny Welbeck have long been unavailable.

Henrikh Mkhitaryan has been in good form of late and should get another start for Arsenal, while it is a case of needs must in terms of deploying forgotten man Carl Jenkinson at right wing back for the visitors. No big changes are expected from Emery, given that his side were very dominant against Bournemouth and should be feeling confident. Mesut Ozil was given 90 minutes against the Cherries and should play an important part once again next time out.

Spurs expected line-up (4-2-3-1): Lloris; Trippier, Sanchez, Alderweireld, Davies; Sissoko, Winks; Lucas, Eriksen, Son; Kane.

Arsenal expected line-up (3-4-3): Leno; Sokratis, Koscielny, Monreal; Jenkinson, Torreira, Guendouzi, Kolasinac; Ozil, Aubameyang, Mkhitaryan
