Teams That Are Already Locks for 2019 March Madness
Updated: 19/11/2024
We are now just about three weeks away from Selection Sunday, which means that it’s time to start thinking about 2019 March Madness and brackets. We will not know for sure how those brackets will look until the selection committee announces all 68 teams, but we do have a solid idea of which teams will definitely be in. There are, as you would expect, some obvious NCAAB betting choices, but we are going to slip outside the current top 25 and take a look at the standings to see which bubble teams may have already done enough to punch their tickets.

Florida State Seminoles
The ACC is arguably the best conference in college basketball, which means that being ranked does not necessarily mean that you get in given that there are so many teams from the same conference in front of you.
The Seminoles are down in the #5 spot in the conference, but they now need to be considered a lock after winning 9 of their last 10 games, with that lone loss coming to #8 UNC. That gives them 10 wins in the conference, which should be more than enough to catch the eye of the selection committee.
Kansas State Wildcats
The Wildcats are sliding in the wrong direction after losing 2 of their last 4 games, but this is still a team that should be considered a lock to be in the tournament.
Those losses both came against ranked teams, but look back through their schedule for the rest of the season and you will see a team that has 4 wins against ranked opponents, 2 of which came on the road. It’s a very decent resume for the Kansas State Wildcats, so expect to see them as part of your bracket once the selection committee makes their decision.
Maryland Terrapins
The Big Ten has been an absolute dogfight all season long, and while the 12-6 record that Maryland sport within the conference may not look all that great, it is not that bad when you consider that no team in there has less than 3 conference losses this season.
A recent win over the ranked Iowa Hawkeyes put the Terrapins on the right side of the bubble line and into what should be a lock for the tournament. They can very much cement that position if they can put in a great shift versus the Michigan Wolverines on Sunday afternoon.
Virginia Tech Hokies
The Hokies started this week as the #20 team in the country, but they will be moving up after taking out Duke in their last outing. That win almost certainly has them as a lock, especially since they are finishing strong with 4 wins in their last 5 games.
The Hokies have just 2 regular season games to play, one of which comes on the road against another team in this list, the Florida State Seminoles. A win there would give the Hokies another boost up the rankings and potentially put them in a much better position once the official March Madness bracket is released.
