Season Series

First meeting. Last year, SDSU won two of three. The last met in the Mountain West Tournament semifinals, and the unranked Aztecs beat the No. 22 Wolf Pack 90-73. Devin Watson had 20 points and Jalen McDaniels 17 points and 12 rebounds. The Wolf Pack was led by Jordan Caroline, who scored 25 points and grabbed 10 rebounds before fouling out. Caleb Martin added 13 for Nevada, while Elijah Cooke had 10. The Wolf Pack shot 39.7 percent from the field, connecting on just 27 of 68. The team’s 24.1 percent clip from 3-point range was a season low.

The Wolf Pack is one of just two one loss teams in Division I. The Pack’s 24-1 record is the best after 25 games in school history. The 11-1 MW record is the best after 12 games in school history. The 24-1 record is tied with 2010-11 SDSU team for the best start in MW history after 25 games as is the 11-1 MW record after 12 games.

Caroline is averaging near a double-double scoring 18.8 points and grabbing 9.8 rebounds per game. He has a double-double in 15 games this season and 42 in his Nevada career that is fourth in school history. The Pack is 40-2 when he posts a double-double. Cody Martin leads the MW averaging 5.4 assists per game as does his 2.9 assist/turnover ratio. Nationally he is 25th in assist/turnover ratio and 48th in assists per game.

Why Bet on San Diego State?

SDSU has won six of its last seven games to improve to 8-4 in MW play. The Aztecs are fourth in the MW standings and 6-0 at home in conference play.

San Diego State comes off a 71-65 home win over Boise State on Saturday. Devin Watson paced San Diego State with 19 points, Jalen McDaniels added 18 and Matt Mitchell and Nathan Mensah also scored in double figures as the Aztecs ran their home conference winning streak to 12 games in splitting the season series with the Broncos.

Boise State pulled to within four points with 45 seconds to play on RJ Williams’ put-back and then a free throw by Pat Dembley. Justinian Jessop’s three-pointer later sliced it to 68-65 before Watson’s free throw helped seal the win.

Nevada vs San Diego State is going to be a close one.

San Diego State overcame a halftime deficit to win in a conference game for the first time this season. Overall, it was the third time SDSU has rallied from a deficit at intermission. In the first meeting between the teams, Boise State outrebounded San Diego State, 33-25. This time, SDSU won the rebounding battle 43-25 and is 12-1 when outrebounding its opponent this season San Diego State’s seven blocked shots tied a season high.

Since the start of the 2012-13 season, San Diego State is 52-7 in conference home games. It has won 10 straight games when leading with five minutes to play. Since Dec. 29, 2018, McDaniels is averaging 19.8 points, 9.9 rebounds and 2.0 assists, while shooting 53.6 percent from the field. He is the one of only four players in the nation that is averaging 19-9.5-2 and is shooting at least 50 percent from the field during that time frame.

“We’re excited for our opportunity on Wednesday, playing the No. 6 team in the country, 24-1, and in all honesty, a team capable of making a run to the Final Four,” SDSU coach Brian Dutcher said. “I’m sure we will get their full attention also, having been fortunate enough to beat them twice at the end of last year. I know that we have been circled on their schedule for a long time. … We’ll just have to set a defensive game plan to try to slow them down. The pace they play at is the pace they play at; we’re not going to be able to change that.”
