Race Preview
This is a highly competitive Class 2 sprint where small margins and handicapping edges will be crucial.
Pilgrim stands out as a well-treated runner returning to a very dangerous mark. He’s a course-and-distance winner and now finds himself back on the same rating as when landing a big handicap at Royal Ascot in 2024. His recent runs suggest he’s been shaping better than the bare results, and with a useful claimer taking weight off, conditions look ideal for a big run.
Tropical Storm is the main danger and brings a strong profile into the race. Although inconsistent last season, he now returns on a workable mark after a gelding operation. If that has had the desired effect, he has the raw ability to go very close in a race of this nature.
Jer Batt is an interesting each-way option. He hasn’t been winning, but his recent third over course and distance suggests he’s still competitive, and he’s now 7lb lower than last year. That drop in the weights makes him dangerous in a race where many are closely matched.
Democracy Dilemma should give his running from the front despite top weight, while Against The Wind and Eternal Sunshine both have claims if ready after breaks. Lexington Blitz is another who could improve after a gelding operation.
Value Angle
Jer Batt makes most appeal from a value perspective. His recent C&D run showed he retains ability, and now 7lb lower in the weights, he’s well positioned to outrun his odds in a competitive sprint.

Verdict
Pilgrim looks ideally handicapped and well suited by conditions, making him the one to beat. Tropical Storm is the main danger with potential improvement, while Jer Batt offers solid value with his reduced mark and recent course form.
