The seven-year-old's reason behind loss of life is not identified, though his Irish trainer Noel Meade mentioned the horse had proven signs of being unwell.

He was owned by Gigginstown House Stud and had been quoted at bookmaker odds of 50-1 for the Grand National at Aintree on 14 April.

A Genie In Abottle beat main National hope Tiger Roll when successful at Wexford in October.

The horse was sent off 4-1 favorite for the four-mile National Hunt Chase at last year's Cheltenham Festival, he finished a very respective fifth in the contest.

Meade informed The Guardian newspaper this morning: “We'd been a bit worried about him however the vets could not discover what was wrong with him. “It was clearly very critical as a result of we discovered him on the ground of his box.” Gigginstown spokesman Eddie O'Leary mentioned: “We've no concept what occurred. He was OK in the morning and dead in his box at Friday lunchtime.”

Gigginstown hopes to have five runners contending the Grand National Aintree race – Tiger Roll, Alpha Des Obeaux, Thunder And Roses, Valseur Lido and Road To Riches.
