Three-way tie at Wells Fargo

Joel Dahmen (pictured) and Max Homa have erased Jason Dufner’s advantage at the Wells Fargo Championship but Rory McIlroy remains the favourite.

Jason Dufner (11/2 Wells Fargo Outright), Joel Dahmen (7/2) and Max Homa (8/1) will take a share of the lead into the final round of the Wells Fargo Championship on Sunday.

Former PGA Championship winner Dufner had gone into Saturday’s third round holding the outright lead, but he was only able to sign for a level par score of 71 which left him on 11-under-par for the tournament.

The 42-year-old has been joined at the top of the leaderboard by world number 125 Dahmen, who recovered from a double bogey at the par-four third to post a score of 70.

California-native Homa completes the American feel at the top of the leaderboard after he produced his own round of 70, but the 28-year-old could have held the outright lead had an errant drive at the last not led to a dropped shot.

Homa, who is looking to win his first PGA Tour title, admits he is just happy to be in the reckoning heading into the final 18 holes.

“All you can ask for is to have a chance,” Homa confirmed.

“I think I did that today. Obviously, we have a long 18 holes to go on a hard golf course, but I’m proud of the round. I like how I played, I like my chances and I like where I’m standing after three days.”

Pat Perez (7/1 Outright) is the nearest challenger to the leading trio as he sits a shot off the pace on 10-under following an impressive round of 66, while Rory McIlroy (5/2 fav) remains very much in contention a further stroke back.

English duo Justin Rose (8/1) and Paul Casey (22/1) are also still in the reckoning on eight and seven under respectively and all the players will be hoping for a less stop-start day after storms twice forced play to be suspended at Quail Hollow Club on Saturday.
