Adam Scott hopes to hold his nerve as he bids to land the Genesis Open.

Adam Scott believes the player who maintains their momentum through the disrupted Genesis Open will emerge as the winner (Adam Scott 9/2 – Genesis Open Outright).

The Australian completed his opening round in 66 and while he only managed to make it through 11 holes in Los Angeles on Friday, was still able to pick up five shots to reach 10-under.

Scott is joined on that total by 9/4 hopeful Justin Thomas, who matched his five-shot improvement, albeit having played a hole more.

Overnight leader JB Holmes (12/1) is one back after nine holes, while Jordan Spieth (5/1) is tied on seven under alongside Luke List. However, he is yet to start his second round, with the weather meaning none of the 144 players in the field could make it through 36 holes after the opening two days.

Having not won since the 2016 WGC-Cadillac Championship, the Australian appears due a victory, especially having finished second at the recent Farmers Insurance Open.

The 38-year-old admits the inclement weather, which is due to pick up over the weekend, is making life hard for everyone but says he is focused on giving himself the best chance of success by ensuring he does not lose his form.

“The challenge is keeping the momentum. It’s a whole new day, starting fresh. You warm up and see what side of the bed you wake up on kind of deal,” Scott said.

“The key again, just like when I changed rounds today or in between rounds, is to go out and keep that momentum going and not lose it, so I think that will be the goal for the rest of the weekend.

“If I can finish off this nine holes really good tomorrow and turn it around for the afternoon and play some more good golf, I’ll be right there for Sunday.”
