DeChambeau pegged back in Minnesota

Bryson DeChambeau is well aware that he missed an opportunity to really establish a clear lead at the 3M Open.

Bryson DeChambeau (11/4 Tournament Outright) will have to be content with a three-way share of the lead heading into the final round of the inaugural 3M Open.

The world number eight had held a two-shot lead following his fantastic score of 62 on Friday and he looked like he was going to pick up where he left off as he birdied his opening hole of the day.

However, the 25-year-old followed that up with a run of 11 successive pars before he dropped a shot at the 13th, with his only other birdie of the day came at the 18th, as he eventually signed for a one-under-par score of 70.

The American admitted afterwards that he felt like he missed an opportunity to build a considerable lead to take into the final round.

“I just didn’t make a couple putts that were necessary to give myself that three, four shot lead like I should have today,” DeChambeau told reporters.

Matthew Wolff (7/1 Outright) has joined DeChambeau at the top of the leaderboard on 15-under-par after he produced a round of the day score of 62, that included 10 birdies and just one dropped shot.

Indeed, a run of six consecutive birdies from the fifth had put the 20-year-old on course for a sub-60 score, but he only picked up two more shots over the next six holes before dropping a shot at the 17th.

However, Wolff remains firmly in contention to win on what is just his third start on the PGA Tour since turning professional, while another rookie, Collin Morikawa (11/2), also holds a share of the lead after signing for a seven-under score of 64.

It is certainly anyone’s guess who will go on to be crowned the first winner of the 3M Open, as a total of 13 players sit within three shots of the lead, including Japan’s Hideki Matsuyama (15/2) and two-time PGA Tour winner Troy Merritt (25/1).
