Casey stays in Travelers hunt - (2025)

Paul Casey feels he is in a “good spot” going into the weekend at the Travelers Championship, despite playing “poorly” in his second round.

World number 15 Paul Casey (15/2 Joint-Fav – Outright Winner) says he is “pretty happy” after managing to keep himself in contention for the Travelers Championship at the halfway stage of the tournament.

Englishman Casey, who is a two-time runner-up at this event after being pipped to the post in 2015 and 2018, made six birdies and two bogeys in a two-under-par round of 68 on Friday.

The 41-year-old is in a seven-way share of sixth on -7 and is four strokes adrift of unheralded American leader Zack Sucher, who followed up his opening round of 64 with a 65 to move onto -11.

US pair Chez Reavie (15/2 Joint-Fav) and Keegan Bradley share second position on -9, two shots off the pace, while their compatriots Ryan Moore (10/1) and Bronson Burgoon are a further stroke back on -8.

Casey, who is looking for his second win of the year following his successful Valspar Championship defence in March, says he didn’t play his best on Friday but is feeling good heading into the weekend.

“Yesterday I finished with a bogey, and today I stand here after finishing with a birdie. That tastes much better,” he was quoted as saying by Sky Sports. “I did struggle through the round, especially with the ball striking; made some errors. But the putting is good.

“I’m in a good spot. Playing poorly it feels like today, not so much yesterday, and to still be in the mix, I’m pretty happy.”

It was not such a good week for American trio Tony Finau, Jordan Spieth and Phil Mickelson as all three players missed the cut at TPC River Highlands in Connecticut.
