28/1 McEvoy after Perth matchplay spot

Richard McEvoy (28/1 – Tournament Outright) is aiming for consistency to ensure he advances into the matchplay format at the ISPS Handa World Super 6 Perth on Sunday.
Englishman McEvoy, who broke his European Tour duck at the 2018 Porsche European Open, kicked off the event Down Under on Thursday with a solid five-under-par 67.
The 39-year-old made seven birdies and two bogeys during his opening 18 holes and is joined on -5 by New Zealand’s Benjamin Campbell, who is a massive 80/1 to win the tournament.
Philippines star Miguel Tabuena (20/1), who birdied eight of his first nine holes, and Norwegian Kristoffer Reitan (45/1) are in a share of first after both players carded seven-under-par rounds of 65.
In one of the European Tour’s innovative events, the top-65 players and ties make it through to Saturday’s play before the top-24 then head into a six-hole matchplay format on Sunday.
Since the alteration in 2017, McEvoy has never made it to the final day’s play but he is feeling confident of changing that statistic this week.
“I’ve been here quite a few times, now. It really suits my eye, I love the golf course which is why I come back year after year,” he told the European Tour’s website.
“It’s a drawer’s course really, which suits my game, there are not many holes out there that don’t suit my eyesight.
“I’m very comfortable here. I haven’t actually got through to match play yet. I’ve had some decent results here in the past when it was just strokeplay but I haven’t actually got through to matchplay. I’m looking forward to trying to get myself into that position.”
Odds subject to change.
