Cardiff boss Neil Warnock admits even a point against Liverpool would be an excellent result as they bid to survive in the Premier League.

The Bluebirds gave their survival hopes a huge boost on Tuesday evening as they secured a precious three points after beating Brighton 2-0 at the Amex Stadium (Cardiff to go down 1/2, Brighton 5/2).

A cracking strike from Nathaniel Mendez-Laing in the first half and a Sean Morrison header early in the second half was enough to beat an out-of-form Brighton to ramp up the pressure on Chris Hughton’s men, as they sit just two points above the drop zone with five games left.

Cardiff have the almighty difficult task of facing Liverpool on Sunday, as they have not taken any point s off top six opponents this season (Match Betting – Cardiff 16/1, Liverpool 1/5, draw 13/2).

They the face Fulham away and Crystal Palace at home and may require maximum points from those games before they travel to Manchester United on the final day of the season.

And, Warnock concedes taking anything away from Liverpool would be a huge scalp given their bad record against the top sides in the division.

“Absolutely. We’ve not got anywhere near a point yet off the top six,” he replied when asked if a point would be a good result.

“The last three home games we’ve played we’ve conceded five goals – Man United, Tottenham, Man City.

“You can plan all day long but if you concede early doors, you’ve no chance against these teams. They will just pick you off. That’s what you get with quality players.

“We realise the challenge but it’s an amazing game. Everyone’s talking about it. The atmosphere will be fabulous.”

Warnock’s team could potentially be five points from contention if Brighton take maximum points at Wolves on Saturday (Match Betting – Wolves 3/4, Brighton 5/1, draw 5/2).

Odds subject to change.
