Vertonghen targets Champions League quarter-finals

Spurs defender Jan Vertonghen is convinced his side can overcome Bundesliga leaders Borussia Dortmund in the last 16 of the Champions League (Tottenham 28/1 – Champions League Outright).
Tottenham host BVB in the first leg at Wembley on Wednesday night as they look to reach the last eight for the first time since 2011.
Spurs secured four points from two group games against eventual champions Real Madrid last season and having also taken a point off Barcelona in the Nou Camp, Belgian defender Vertonghen believes his side are a match for Europe’s big guns.
“We can beat anyone,” said Vertonghen. “We have shown that last year. Over two games we were the better team against Real Madrid, who were the eventual winners of the trophy.
“That is why it was a shame we could not do better last year because we felt we should have done better. That is why everyone has the feeling we can do it this year.”
Spurs are 6/5 to win on Wednesday, the draw is 5/2 and BVB are 5/2.
Spurs have a few injury issues going into the tie and Vertonghen is expected to fill in at left-back, with Ben Davies definitely missing and Danny Rose a major doubt due to a shin injury.
Key pair Harry Kane and Dele Alli remain sidelined although Eric Dier and Erik Lamela are expected to be involved after missing the league win over Leicester at the weekend.
Dortmund have some major concerns, too, and star man Marco Reus is absent due to a thigh injury although England international Jadon Sancho is available for the German giants.
Any Tottenham player to score from outside the area is 3/1 in Betfred’s #PickYourPunt market and any Spurs player to score a direct free kick is 11/1.
Odds subject to change.
