Puel’s Leicester to outfox Hodgson’s Eagles?

Updated: 13/12/2024

Leicester City come into their clash with Crystal Palace on the back of a 13-day break.

The Foxes have lost their last two league matches against Manchester United and Tottenham, though they’ve a lot to be positive about from their performances in both matches.

Palace come into the game bouncing after reaching the FA Cup quarter-finals. They’ll be boosted by the return of one of their key men too ahead of the game at the King Power Stadium.

Who will come away with three points? We’ve got all the preview and odds right here…

Match Odds

Despite a poor run of form, Leicester come into the game as favourites.

Their break would have allowed them to shift focus solely on Palace, as well as re-energise the players. Our traders have them at 6/5 to pick up vital points.

Palace will be jubilant and match-fit after their FA Cup clash with Doncaster Rovers, but they’re still 12/5 outsiders here to take the points back to Selhurst Park. The draw is 11/5.

Talking Tactics

Foxes boss Claude Puel confirmed that his side will still be without Marc Albrighton and Daniel Amartey with their injuries.

They could also be without first-choice left-back Ben Chilwell and attacking-midfielder James Maddison, who have both picked up knocks and face late fitness tests.

Nampalys Mendy returns to the side after a groin injury kept him out for their last match against Tottenham. He could start alongside Wilfred Ndidi and loan signing Youri Tielemans to strengthen the Foxes midfield.

Eagles boss Roy Hodgson will be boosted by the return of Wilfried Zaha after he served his two-match suspension for sarcastically applauding the referee against Southampton.

He could start alongside Chelsea loanee Michy Batshuayi up-front, with Hodgson hoping they could form a formidable partnership to fire Palace up the table.

The South-East London side will be without left-back Pape Souare, who isn’t expected to recover from his shoulder injury until mid-March.

Goalscorer Odds

Jamie Vardy bagged a goal last time out against Spurs at Wembley, and he’ll fancy his chances in this one. He’s 7/2 favourite to score first, or 7/5 to score anytime.

There could be added emphasis on wing-play from Leicester this weekend. That could see Harvey Barnes and Demarai Grey get more chances to score if they cut inside.

We’ve got odds of 10/3 on Barnes to score anytime, with Gray coming in at 16/5 to net.

With Palace having Zaha back, and signing a striker with unfinished business in the Premier League in Batshuayi, the Eagles will fancy their chances of scoring in the game too.

Zaha is Palace’s best chance of opening the scoring, and we’ve got odds of 7/1 for that. He’s also available at 13/5 to score anytime. Batshuayi comes in at 3/1 as an anytime goalscorer.

Harry Maguire is an outside bet, with the centre-back scoring three Premier League goals already this season. He’s 6/1 to score anytime.
