Premier League Betting Tips – Week 27

Updated: 20/09/2023
Our columnists tip up their best picks for the weekend’s Premier League action
Headed by one of world football’s most fierce rivalries, the Manchester-Merseyside derby, Premier League action returns this weekend after some stellar FA Cup and European entertainment.
We’re also treated to Chelsea vs Manchester City in the Carabao Cup final on Sunday that sees the first piece of silverware awarded this season – so we’ll tip up that one too (why not!).
Without further ado…
Manchester United vs Liverpool (Sunday, 2.05pm)
We think it’s fair to say this is the one fans of both sides are drawn straight to when the fixture lists are first released. A geographical, historical rivalry that has given English football some of its greatest moments.
Utmost importance ahead of this one too, as Liverpool (13/10) look for their first Premier League title (11/8) while Manchester United (21/10) look to stop their rivals doing just that while cementing a top-four finish (EVS) come the end of the season.
Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has taken maximum points from nearly every game since taking the United job and their last outing at Stamford Bridge in the FA Cup was arguably their best performance since the Fergie days.
It’s the kind of tie that could go either way, but we think United’s form, confidence and desire to halt Liverpool’s title charge will get them at least a point from this one.
Burnley vs Tottenham (Saturday, 12.30pm)
Tottenham (7/10) have gone about their business and find themselves as many people’s underdogs for the Premier League title this season. They’re in impressive form, with four consecutive wins including a highlight 3-0 win over Bundesliga leaders Borussia Dortmund – all without star man Harry Kane.
Speaking of which, the record-holding striker is reportedly back in training and could feature here, which only strengthens their chances. Son has filled in perfectly, becoming arguably the league’s player of the month.
Burnley (9/2) are no pushovers though, and should prove a stern test here – so we’re going with a Spurs win and both teams to score.
Leicester City vs Crystal Palace (Saturday, 5.30pm)
Claude Puel and Leicester City (6/5) are under pressure to get results and this feels like yet another must-win. Unfortunately for the aforementioned, if we had to back one or the other we’d be siding with Crystal Palace (5/2) to get the result here.
The Foxes have won just one game this year – on New Year’s Day – whereas Palace are on a fairly solid run of form as of late.
We expect them to get the result here but our main tip is for both teams to score – which seems pretty likely at an attractive price.
Chelsea vs Manchester City (Sunday, 4.30pm)
Just two weeks after putting six past them in the league, Manchester City (4/7) come up against rivals Chelsea (9/2) once more – this time in the final of the Carabao Cup. Who will take the first piece of silverware on offer this season?
Sarri’s men are on the back of consecutive domestic defeats to both Manchester Clubs – conceding 8 and scoring precisely nil. The Stamford Bridge faithful are growing frustrated with the Italian boss, with many calling for his sacking already.
Guardiola and co on the other hand remain favourites for all four competitions they remain in – including a 4/6 shot for the Premier League title – and should get their trophy collection up and running this season with a win here.
