Midweek Football Accumulator Tips: City Ready to Run Riot Again

It’s a big weekend of cup football across Europe on Wednesday night as Spain, France and England all welcome encounters of the knockout kind. Another bonus is the return of the Scottish Premiership with every side taking to the field for the first time in 2019.
I’ve picked out four of the midweek matches and given extensive tips on them all plus an accumulator to finish things off.
Burton Albion vs. Manchester City
Carabao Cup, 19:45
Burton were sent back to the East Midlands with their tails firmly between their legs a fortnight ago when a remorseless Man City side ran out 9–0 winners in the first leg of their League Cup semi-final. Pep Guardiola will likely shuffle his pack for the return fixture at the Pirelli Stadium, but we can expect City to continue in a similar vein and not hold back against their third-tier opponents.

1986 – Burton Albion's 9-0 defeat is the heaviest League Cup defeat by any side since Liverpool beat Fulham 10-0 back in September 1986, and is the largest ever margin of defeat in the semi-final of the competition. Gap. #CarabaoCup

function notifyResize(height) {height = height ? height : document.documentElement.offsetHeight; var resized = false; if (window.donkey && donkey.resize) {donkey.resize(height); resized = true;}if (parent && parent._resizeIframe) {var obj = {iframe: window.frameElement, height: height}; parent._resizeIframe(obj); resized = true;}if (window.location && window.location.hash === “#amp=1” && window.parent && window.parent.postMessage) {window.parent.postMessage({sentinel: “amp”, type: “embed-size”, height: height}, “*”);}if (window.webkit && window.webkit.messageHandlers && window.webkit.messageHandlers.resize) {window.webkit.messageHandlers.resize.postMessage(height); resized = true;}return resized;}twttr.events.bind(‘rendered', function (event) {notifyResize();}); twttr.events.bind(‘resize', function (event) {notifyResize();});if (parent && parent._resizeIframe) {var maxWidth = parseInt(window.frameElement.getAttribute(“width”)); if ( 500 < maxWidth) {window.frameElement.setAttribute("width", "500");}}
Burton, too, will not be quite as rigid and defence-minded as they would have been if the tie was still in the balance. Given City are averaging 2.9 goals per game across all competitions this season — and almost all of their prior games have come against better teams than Burton — it makes sense to back them to score more than 3.5 times against Nigel Clough’s men for the second time this month.
Sevilla vs. Barcelona
Copa del Rey, 20:30
Sevilla were disappointing in last weekend’s 2–0 loss to Real Madrid, their third defeat on the bounce. They have generally performed well this season, though, and remain in the hunt for their first top-three finish in La Liga since 2008/09.

Morning! So Messi was being his usual 🐐 self this weekend… Barcelona drawing 1-1 64' Messi Subbed on ➡️ 71' Messi shot leads to Suarez rebound goal 🅰️ 93' Messi scores ⚽️ Barca win 3-1 Here he is 👇 https://t.co/Me9292jUzh
function notifyResize(height) {height = height ? height : document.documentElement.offsetHeight; var resized = false; if (window.donkey && donkey.resize) {donkey.resize(height); resized = true;}if (parent && parent._resizeIframe) {var obj = {iframe: window.frameElement, height: height}; parent._resizeIframe(obj); resized = true;}if (window.location && window.location.hash === “#amp=1” && window.parent && window.parent.postMessage) {window.parent.postMessage({sentinel: “amp”, type: “embed-size”, height: height}, “*”);}if (window.webkit && window.webkit.messageHandlers && window.webkit.messageHandlers.resize) {window.webkit.messageHandlers.resize.postMessage(height); resized = true;}return resized;}twttr.events.bind(‘rendered', function (event) {notifyResize();}); twttr.events.bind(‘resize', function (event) {notifyResize();});if (parent && parent._resizeIframe) {var maxWidth = parseInt(window.frameElement.getAttribute(“width”)); if ( 500 < maxWidth) {window.frameElement.setAttribute("width", "500");}}
Barcelona, meanwhile, are on course to retain the title and are looking to do the same in the Copa del Rey, which they secured last May with a 5–0 thrashing of Sevilla in the final. They have only kept three clean sheets in their last 13 away games, however, so both teams to score looks like the way to go here.
Paris Saint-Germain vs. Strasbourg
Coupe de France, 20:05
PSG have picked up where they left off in Ligue 1 before the winter break by beating Amiens 3–0 and Guingamp 9–0 to extend their lead at the summit of the table to 13 points. They have not had everything their own way in recent weeks, however, with Guingamp knocking the holders out of the Coupe de la Ligue two weeks ago.

🇫🇷 @PSG_Inside front 3 this season: 🇧🇷 @NeymarJR: ⚽️ 20 Goals 🎯 10 Assists 🇫🇷 @KMbappe: ⚽️ 21 Goals 🎯 11 Assists 🇺🇾 @ECavaniOfficial: ⚽️ 17 Goals 🎯 7 Assists 🔥 Unstoppable.

function notifyResize(height) {height = height ? height : document.documentElement.offsetHeight; var resized = false; if (window.donkey && donkey.resize) {donkey.resize(height); resized = true;}if (parent && parent._resizeIframe) {var obj = {iframe: window.frameElement, height: height}; parent._resizeIframe(obj); resized = true;}if (window.location && window.location.hash === “#amp=1” && window.parent && window.parent.postMessage) {window.parent.postMessage({sentinel: “amp”, type: “embed-size”, height: height}, “*”);}if (window.webkit && window.webkit.messageHandlers && window.webkit.messageHandlers.resize) {window.webkit.messageHandlers.resize.postMessage(height); resized = true;}return resized;}twttr.events.bind(‘rendered', function (event) {notifyResize();}); twttr.events.bind(‘resize', function (event) {notifyResize();});if (parent && parent._resizeIframe) {var maxWidth = parseInt(window.frameElement.getAttribute(“width”)); if ( 500 < maxWidth) {window.frameElement.setAttribute("width", "500");}}
That defeat will refocus Parisian minds ahead of this last 32 encounter and that is bad news for Strasbourg. Le Racing are enjoying a fine season of their own and could even qualify for the Champions League, but PSG are operating in a different stratosphere and should win comfortably at the Parc des Princes.
Kilmarnock vs. Rangers
Scottish Premiership, 19:45
Kilmarnock have been the surprise package of the Scottish season up until now and Steve Clarke’s men are only one point behind league leaders Celtic (albeit having played a game more). Rangers are also a single point behind the champions and their great rivals, which makes this a crunch clash between the two main challengers to Celtic’s crown.

Nice to make my @RangersFC debut today! Thank you to all the fans, can't wait for a league game next… ⚽️✨
function notifyResize(height) {height = height ? height : document.documentElement.offsetHeight; var resized = false; if (window.donkey && donkey.resize) {donkey.resize(height); resized = true;}if (parent && parent._resizeIframe) {var obj = {iframe: window.frameElement, height: height}; parent._resizeIframe(obj); resized = true;}if (window.location && window.location.hash === “#amp=1” && window.parent && window.parent.postMessage) {window.parent.postMessage({sentinel: “amp”, type: “embed-size”, height: height}, “*”);}if (window.webkit && window.webkit.messageHandlers && window.webkit.messageHandlers.resize) {window.webkit.messageHandlers.resize.postMessage(height); resized = true;}return resized;}twttr.events.bind(‘rendered', function (event) {notifyResize();}); twttr.events.bind(‘resize', function (event) {notifyResize();});if (parent && parent._resizeIframe) {var maxWidth = parseInt(window.frameElement.getAttribute(“width”)); if ( 500 < maxWidth) {window.frameElement.setAttribute("width", "500");}}
Neither team is likely to take too many risks given what is at stake, which is why goals will be at a premium. Under 3.5 goals would have paid out in four of Kilmarnock’s last five games and each of Rangers’ last 11, so complete your midweek accumulator with that bet.
