Javier Hernandez injury: Will West Ham striker be fit to face Burnley?
Updated: 18/11/2024
Manuel Pellegrini is facing somewhat of an injury crisis at West Ham over the holiday period, with a significant number of his first-choice players out with knocks.
December injuries to Fabian Balbuena, Lucas Perez, Javier Hernandez and Marko Arnautovic mean that West Ham's casualty list has extended to double figures.

For the 4.9 per cent of Fantasy Premier League managers who had the in-form Mexican striker in their sides, the latest Hammers injury sustained against Watford will be a major nuisance.
How long will Chicharito be out for?
After the match against Watford last weekend, Pellegrini said it would be a “struggle” for a number of his players to return during a congested period of fixtures: “We need now to see about the other two players, Chicharito and Balbuena. So that is a big problem but we need to trust the squad and try to make a good rotation.
“Javier had a kick in his back during the week. He couldn't work. Now in this game he had the same problem with some strain in his hamstring.”
The two issues seem to have compounded each other and, while no return date has been specified, Hernandez will likely be out for a few gameweeks in a busy fixture period. Upcoming opponents include Liverpool and Arsenal, should he even feature.
Should I get rid of him?
Possibly, given Hernandez didn't feature in the matchday squad against Southampton and may not recover for a while. If your bench striker won't play in Gameweek 20, then you probably need to replace him.
It has also been reported that he is looking to move to another club for more game time, and there is every possibility he could be the subject of a transfer in a few weeks. In addition, with only 50 points totalled this season from fairly infrequent minutes, there are probably more reliable options for £6.4m.
Potential replacements
Glenn Murray (£6.5m) is a tried and trusted striker at this price mark – although his early form has somewhat slowed of late and there are some tough upcoming games for Brighton.
Danny Ings (£5.6m) is a man in form and favoured under Ralph Hassenhuttl at a re-energised Southampton, but he also faces some very strong opposition in the next few matches against Manchester City, Chelsea, Leicester and Everton.
Raul Jimenez (£6.3m), the assist king himself, is also a good shout. He's looked relatively sharp despite Wolves' poor form of late. However, the next four weeks are far from a breeze – Spurs, Crystal Palace, Manchester City and Leicester await.
Aboubakar Kamara (£4.4m) is also a value option, as he is getting game time at Fulham under Claudio Ranieri and could save you £2m to upgrade your squad elsewhere.
i verdict
Chicharito has in parts played very well for West Ham, but this latest injury is a knock to the goal return. It could be time to offload him for a value option, if only to buy him back later when he returns.
Alternatively, sell an expensive, underperforming midfielder and get some real strike power in. You always wanted Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, really, didn't you?
