Caretaker boss Mark Hudson wants his Huddersfield side to take the game to Premier League champions Manchester City on Sunday.

Huddersfield Town interim manager Mark Hudson has called on his players to show “real intent” when they welcome Manchester City to the John Smith’s Stadium on Sunday (Match Betting – Huddersfield 20/1, draw 8/1, Manchester City 2/13).

The former club captain was handed the reins earlier this week following the departure of David Wagner after a terrible run of results.

Huddersfield lost nine in a row prior to the goalless draw with Cardiff last weekend and they lie bottom of the Premier League with 16 games left to play.

Sunday’s clash will certainly prove tough, having lost 6-1 to City (11/10 To Win Both Halves – Sunday Football Specials) earlier in the campaign, but the 36-year-old has called on his squad to approach the match with a positive attitude.

Hudson told Huddersfield’s official website: “Man City are a world class team with a world class manager, but we’ve just got to look forward to it.

“We have to show intent, it’s all about us, what we can do this week on the training field and go into the game with real intent to try and pose them as many problems as we can.

“That’s not to underestimate them in any means, but we have to focus on us; that’s what we’ve been good on over the past three years.”

Early indications suggest that Hudson isn’t in the long-term plans of owner Dean Hoyle and reports claim the West Yorkshire are looking to Germany once again.

It’s understood that they have enquired about the availability of Borussia Dortmund coach Jan Stiewert, although it’s not clear whether talks have progressed beyond initial contact.

Odds subject to change.
