Huddersfield v Tottenham Hotspur – Spurs to Tame Terriers

Updated: 30/01/2023
Huddersfield v Tottenham Hotspur – The John Smith's Stadium – 30 September, 2017 – 12:30 hrs – EPL Preview
Coach David Wagner's Huddersfield Town, in their maiden seasonal appearance in the English Premier League have performed beyond expectations.
Fans can forgive them their lone 0-2 away defeat to West Ham and the fact that they have remained unbeaten in their remaining five matches is a testimony to their out performance.
The Terriers as a result of this, find themselves in an enviable 8th spot of the EPL table with 9 points. Huddersfield’s exuberance could however end when they host a rampaging Tottenham Hotspur at the John Smith's Stadium on Saturday noon.
The Huddersfield defense marshalled by the very impressive center-back, Christopher Schindler, succesfully kept the Burnley attackers in check while forcing out a 0-0 draw away at the Turf Moor. But keeping out the likes of Harry Kane & Co. from their goal-mouths will be asking for a lot from the Terriers.
Spurs displayed a lot of spunk at the London stadium last weekend while hanging on to a 3-2 lead against a determined West Ham side after being down to 10-men.
The Huddersfield defense quartet of Schindler, Tommy Smith, Mathias Jorgensen and Chris Lowe will have a job on their hands keeping not just Kane at bay but also attackers like Del Alli, Christian Eriksen, Ben Davies and Son Heung-min.
For the Terriers, the onus of getting goals will be on Laurent Depoitre, Tom Ince and Steve Mounie, a task made more urgent by the fact that they have found the back of the net on just 4 occasions from their last 5 Premier League games.
The Spurs defense comprising of Toby Alderweireld, Davinson Sanchez, Jan Vertonghen and Serge Aurier have been flawless. But Aurier will find himself out of the next three matches thanks to the red card earned in the 70th minute of the West Ham game.
The breaking news for the Spurs is their latest acquisition from Swansea City, 32-year old Belgian striker Fernando Llorente, could start off in Tottenham's midweek UEFA Champions League outing in faraway Nicosia against APOEL.
Harry Winks, the 20-year old midfielder is all set to make his first appearance since April for the Nicosia clash.
Coach Mauricio Pochettino could be tempted to give both Llorente and Winks a try for the weekend clash against Huddersfield while giving a couple of his key players a rest.
Huddersfield v Tottenham Match Verdict
Despite a weary Tottenham returning from a gruelling Mediterranean outing, bookmakers have overwhelmingly put their money on Pochettino's men walking away with Saturday's clash at the John Smith's. Huddersfield Town could be staring at their second big defeat of the season.
