Christmas 2018 sport TV guide: festive football, rugby and darts highlights on BT Sport and Sky Sports

Football
It would be easier to say when football isn’t on television over the festive period. Between now and New Year’s Day, there are 16 Premier League matches live on television. And if that is not enough, there are five Championship games.
There’s a Sky Sports triple-header on Boxing Day. And if you are still hungry for more, Southampton v West Ham will be playing under the lights on 27 December, again on Sky.
Liverpool v Arsenal (bosses Jurgen Klopp and Unai Emery pictured below) on BT Sport is the highlight of 29 December, with another treble on Sky Sports the next day.
Everton v Leicester and Cardiff v Tottenham see us into 2019 on New Year’s Day.
In the Championship, it’s Hull v Swansea on 22 December then Aston Villa v Leeds the following day to get us into the Christmas spirit, while promotion contenders Sheffield United host Derby to brighten up Boxing Day.

Darts
On every night except Christmas Day, with more garish costumes on show than an office party. The finale of the arrow-throwing jamboree from Alexandra Palace comes on New Year’s Day.
Tonight-New Year’s Day
7pm, Sky Sports Arena
World’s Strongest Man
A riveting festive stalwart for Channel 5. No matter that the competition took place in March and April: as we sit in a food-induced trance, watching enormous men pull trucks and flip tyres is just the ticket.
Now-New Year’s Eve
7pm, Channel 5
Cricket
If you can’t sleep on Christmas night, you’re in luck, because you’ll have Test cricket for company. Australia continue their redemption by taking on India. The third Test starts at 11.30pm Christmas night.
Boxing Day
Australia v India, 11pm, BT Sport 1
Rugby union
Harlequins long ago cottoned on to the fact that most of us are looking for a reason to get out of the house over the holidays – and scheduled a crunch match in front of a crowd of 80,000. This is the 11th incarnation of the Big Game as they take on Wasps.
Saturday 29 December
