Championship Promotion Race Hots Up

The race to win promotion from the Championship to the Premier League is as tight as ever with a full round of fixtures in midweek (Norwich 5/4 Leeds 6/4 Sheffield United 6/1 – Outright).

Norwich City sit at the top of the table, two points clear of second-placed Leeds United, after their win in a fiery ‘Old Farm’ derby on Sunday in which they dominated their bottom-of-the-table rivals.

Leeds are two points off top as their poor run of form since Christmas continues, although they did fight back to pick up a very late point at Middlesbrough on Saturday lunchtime.

The other side in the race for automatic promotion is Chris Wilder’s Sheffield United who missed their own opportunity to go top on Friday night when they let a 3-0 lead slip in the final 10 minutes at Aston Villa.

All three sides are in action this week with table-toppers Norwich travelling to an in-form Preston.

Wilder’s Blades are at home to a Middlesbrough side right in the thick of a push for a top-six spot so that will not be an easy game for the hosts.

Leeds are at Elland Road where they will be up against a Swansea side still harbouring hopes of featuring in the play-offs themselves, although they are six points adrift of the top six.

West Brom are by no means out of it and arguably have the strongest squad of all the top-four sides, and host Nottingham Forest on Tuesday night (West Brom 6/5 to be promoted).

Odds subject to change.
