Callum Wilson injury: Will Bournemouth star play against Everton? - (2025)

Despite costing just £6.7m on Fantasy Premier League, Callum Wilson has outlined himself as one of the game's elite strikers, picking up an impressive 105 points so far this season.

Unfortunately for FPL managers who own the Englishman, and indeed Cherries fans, Wilson was absent for Bournemouth's FA Cup tie against Brighton last weekend and missed training sessions earlier this week sparking rumours that he could be set to miss Gameweek 22.

With a crucial fixture against Everton on the horizon Bournemouth's top scorer could be set to miss out.

How serious is the injury?

Speaking at his press conference on Friday, Eddie Howe explained Wilson's absence from training.

“We have a couple of knocks, a few players nursing injury and illness so will see who’s fit,” the Bournemouth manager said.

“Callum was missing last week, Josh [King] was ill and Ryan [Fraser] was limping at the end of the game so we have a few to assess and check. Whether they are fit and available we will wait and see.”

The update is vague, but it appears that Wilson, along with Fraser and King, is in a fitness race to feature in Gameweek 22.

Should I get rid of him?

No.

Reports suggest the striker is just suffering with a tight hamstring and could well feature in Gameweek 22.

Fantasy Premier League managers should start the forward, but have a strong back up striker on the bench to take his place should he miss out completely.

Potential replacements

Not confident that Wilson will play in Gameweek 22? Sign one of these certified point scorers instead.

Danny Ings (£5.6m) has scored seven goals in just 13 Premier League appearances this season. Expect him to add to his tally in upcoming fixtures against Leicester, Everton, Crystal Palace, Burnley and Cardiff.

Roberto Firmino (£9.1m). Got some spare cash in the bank? Consider swapping Marcus Rashford out for Bobby Firminio. The Brazilian came good for FPL managers in Gameweek 20, scoring a sublime hat-trick against Arsenal and grabbed another against Man City in Gameweek 21.

Aleksandr Mitrovic (£6.6m) has managed eight goals and three assists so far this season and with Fulham grinding out a fair run of results, now could be a good time to invest in the Serbian. The Cottagers take on Burnley, Spurs, Brighton and Crystal Palace in their next four fixtures.

i verdict

At worst it looks like Wilson will miss the Gameweek 22 fixture against Everton before returning against West Ham a week later.

In Gameweek 22 start the Englishman alongside a strong striker – such as Harry Kane or Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang – and ensure that you have a good backup option on the bench to be subbed in if Wilson misses out altogether.
