A pre season target of finishing in the top four could still come to pass for Julian Nagelsmann and his team, but they’ll need to find much greater consistency, especially at home.

Three wins from nine games at home is a statistic that speaks volumes of their troubles and it isn’t even defeats that have been the issue. Instead it’s a run of six straight draws before the break that saw them drift to six points off fourth and they need to rediscover the winning touch soon.

It’s a lot to ask, however, that they do so on the first game back against Bayern, who themselves won five in a row to close the gap at the top to six points.

Niko Kovac remains in place as manager and the squad will be raring to go, though a few injuries are still affecting the team. Look to big half seasons from Kingsley Coman and Serge Gnabry. Both can have an impact in this game and contribute to goals.

Bayer Leverkusen vs. Borussia Monchengladbach

Leverkusen have been frustratingly inconsistent so far this term and are capable of a lot more than they’ve shown — as evidenced by their current ranking of ninth. The top six is the minimum aim, with the attacking talent at their disposal, and they need to get far more out of the likes of Leon Bailey and Lucas Alario.

Borussia Monchengladbach have been extremely watchable, but their form has wavered between exceptional at home and absurd away. It will give B04 hope of making a winning start to the second half of the campaign.

Whichever way the result goes, there should be goals: both sides had three or more goals in three of their last six before the break. Also, Leverkusen have conceded the most goals at home in the top half and BMG conceded the second highest in the top half away.

RB Leipzig vs. Borussia Dortmund

The truth of the matter is that, despite topping the table, Dortmund did struggle away early on in the season. BVB didn’t fully set players free and this game could be another tactical battle.

Leipzig will be desperate to preserve their top four status and unbeaten home record, and they have the players to do exactly that.
