Bournemouth vs Liverpool: Player ratings as Mohamed Salah helps the visitors record comfortable victory - (2022)
Asmir Begovic 3/10
Should have done better in the build-up to the opening goal, parrying a shot into Salah’s path that started the beginning of the end for the home side. Was sent the wrong way on two occasions in the lead-up to Salah's third of the afternoon. Not a performance he'll remember.
Charlie Daniels 4/10
Didn't manage to offer much whatsoever on the offensive side of things, finding himself pegged back throughout the majority of the game. Tried to link up with Stanislas, but suffered on the back foot.
Steve Cook 2/10
Couldn't get close enough to Salah in the build-up to the Egyptian's first two goals, before turning home an unfortunate own goal of his own, flicking a Robertson cross into the back of his own net in very peculiar circumstances. A day to forget for the experienced central defender.
Nathan Ake 4/10
Picked up an early booking for deliberate handball to block a dangerous pass, but did pick some good moments to step out and try and end quick Liverpool breaks. Generally found himself overrun and struggled to recover whenever Salah was fed in behind his back four.
Simon Francis 4/10
Struggled to deal with Robertson overlapping down the left-hand side for Liverpool, and was robbed of the ball on several occasions. Comfortable on the ball, but didn't do any damage with it whatsoever.
David Brooks 5/10
Drifted in from the right-hand side in the first half, looking to involve himself in pocket of space around the area. Tested Alisson with a low strike at the near post. Not short of a trick or two, but faded after the break. Some more promising moments from an inexperienced but confident player.
Jefferson Lerma 4/10
Booked early on which didn't enable him to conduct his normal way of doing business. Kept the ball well when he was given possession, but struggled against a Liverpool midfield that dominated the game and created much more. The away side's press was tough to deal with.
Andrew Surman 4/10
Didn't manage to get on the ball in areas which enabled him to affect the tempo of the game, spending the majority of proceedings sat fairly deep. Bournemouth struggled to piece together meaningful passages of play, with how high Liverpool pressed causing problems. Willing to receive the ball, but was more of a water carrier than a creator.
Junior Stanislas 5/10
Looked to stretch his legs and get down the left-hand side to test Milner whenever he could. Overcooked a great opportunity to slide a through ball into King’s path on the edge of the penalty area at the 40-minute mark in a wasteful first half. Had a decent free-kick attempt after the break, but offered little else.
Josh King 5/10
His pace looked to stretch Liverpool on the break and he fired home an emphatic half volley that was ruled out for offside. He was one of the players that looked most likely to make something happen for Bournemouth on the day, with his turn of pace getting him into good areas – but the service was lacking.
Ryan Fraser 4/10
Didn't manage to create anything from his set-piece duties, and struggled to make an impact against a solid Liverpool defence. Didn't manage to carve out any opportunities for himself and rarely got to use his pace properly from central areas.
Lys Mousset 5/10
Came into the game with around half an hour left to play, but didn't make much of an impact at all. Didn't generate any opportunities.
Tyrone Mings 5/10
Slotted in as Eddie Howe looked to limit the damage late in the second half.
Diego Rico 5/10
Replaced Daniels at left back for the last 10 minutes at the Vitality, but didn't have a great deal to do late on.
Made a good save at near post to deny Brooks in the first half, but generally wasn't tested too sternly. Protected well by his central defenders and commanded his penalty area without too much of a problem.
James Milner 7/10
A tenacious showing at right back on his 500th Premier League appearance. Stepped into an unfamiliar position easily, crunching into a couple of tackles and not giving Stanislas any reason to think that he could prey on the former England international's usual preference for featuring down the left or in midfield.
Joel Matip 7/10
A solid showing in Joe Gomez's absence, as the former Schalke defender stepped in alongside Van Dijk and didn't put a foot out of place. Decent in the air and Bournemouth were unable to use their main asset of pace in behind due to a lack of service and ideas. A comfortable afternoon that will give him plenty of confidence.
Virgil Van Dijk 7/10
Another error-free showing from the Dutchman, who continues to prove why he is one of the most highly-rated central defenders in the Premier League. Comfortable in possession, strong in the air and was not worried at any point of the afternoon.
Andy Robertson 8/10
Provided some nice combination play down the left-hand side with Salah, keen to play in neat triangles or get beyond the likes of Salah and Shaqiri down the left-hand side. A constant threat with his left foot, delivering some teasing balls into the Bournemouth penalty area – with one forcing an own goal from Cook.
Played at the base of midfield, keen to drop in and receive the ball from his back four, before stretching the play. Used his height well in a few aerial battles, and linked up well with Wijnaldum and Keita in the centre of the park, allowing for Shaqiri to push ahead and be a little more offensively minded.
Naby Keita 8/10
Content to drive on the ball to try and bring Liverpool further upfield, as well as providing a solid, energetic base alongside Fabinho in midfield. Beat two Bournemouth players in quick succession with a nutmeg, which was a particular highlight for a player who is clearly brimming with confidence at the moment.
Georginio Wijnaldum 7/10
Another solid performance helped to established that Wijnaldum-Fabinho-Keita appears to be Jurgen Klopp's first-choice midfield moving forwards in big, competitive games. Had a chance to grab himself a goal from a Robertson cross, but the Dutchman could only direct a header wide.
Xherdan Shaqiri 7/10
Linked up well with Salah, lifting various well-weighted balls over the top for his teammate to chase. Helped pull the strings in this sense, as the Switzerland international ensured that Bournemouth's back four were constantly wary of stepping too high to allow Salah more opportunities to use his pace in behind.
Roberto Firmino 7/10
His long-range effort forced Begovic to spill for the opening goal, as the Brazilian continued to show a good understanding with Salah. He wasn't the man to be fed in behind, but his movement and intelligence allowed for those around him to find pockets of space as a result of his play.
Mohamed Salah 9/10
Put in behind on several occasions early on, worried the home side with his directness and pace, scored after 25 minutes with a neat finish. Showed to feet regularly, linking up with the midfield well. Guided home a second with ease, despite being fouled in the process, before going on a slaloming run and stabbing the ball over the line for his hat trick. Got the better of Cook and Ake with ease.
Adam Lallana 6/10
Introduced after a lengthy injury lay-off, but did suffer a blow to the head that saw him receive treatment for a while and handed a fresh shirt. Energetic and bright, with a point to prove.
Sadio Mane 7/10
Added fresh legs and new movement against an ailing Bournemouth defence, with Liverpool fans sure to be happy to see him back fully fit after a foot problem.
Jordan Henderson 6/10
Given the last 10 minutes to stretch his legs, but was not afforded enough time to prove that he deserves to be in ahead of the starting trio.
