This week in the NBA: All Hail King Carter
Updated: 19/11/2024
Odds and review of the NBA action
Yet another frenzied week in the NBA has seen even more storylines coming to the surface.
Kemba Walker and Kyrie Irving gave us a lesson in net-busters as they both ran up 40+ point scores.
The LA Lakers are still trying to find some level of consistency and what about Golden State?
We peer into the world of the US’s elite ‘ballers and pick out some of the week’s biggest talking points.
Winners
Vince Carter
Walker could have made the winners list for a second week after his 43-point score against Boston Celtics.
But it’s all about Vince Carter this week. The Atlanta Hawks shooting guard’s career has spanned across 20 years since his 1999 debut for Toronto Raptors.
The eight-time NBA All-Star finally netted his 25,000 career point against the Raptors last Wednesday.
He may be 41-years-old but he sealed the feat with a real throwback after he was gifted a second chance of a slam dunk.
It’s a testament to his longevity. ‘Vinsanity’ has just etched another mark in his legendary status in the game.
Colin Sexton
Sexton was allegedly told he ‘doesn’t know how to play’ at this level by several Cleveland Cavaliers veterans including J.R Smith.
But the rookie may have just landed after scoring 23 and 29 in his last two games.
The 19-year-old was playing college ball only last year but this duo of performances could have shut his critics down.
The Cavs face Minnesota Timberwolves and then the Oklahoma City Thunder. It may not be one-way traffic for Trae Young for rookie of the year.
Losers
Miami Heat
Dwyane Wade may have shot a 35 point score against the Raptors on Sunday but that hasn’t stopped the Heat from getting the cold shoulder.
That loss saw them take their fourth L in five games as they sunk to 7-12 and a negative win-record.
The fact that a 36-year-old Wade is the team’s first and best alternative from the bench, says more about the team than Wade himself.
Their loss to the Raptors was full of positive signs, including a season-low seven turnovers and good performance from Bam Adebayo.
But with their bench outscoring their starting five, Coach Erik Spoelstra has some thinking to do.
Big Talking Point
When is Steph Curry back? Golden State Warriors fans will be screaming for his return.
The 3x NBA champ has already missed eight matches for the Dubs.
That has coincided with a four-game losing streak that had the game pointing fingers at the Warriors camp.
Add to it, the beef between Kevin Durant and Draymond Green, and things were looking uncomfortable for the first time in a long time.
Curry is still expected to miss at least two more games to take the tally to a ten-game absence.
The 30-year-old represents the fun GSW which was sold to KD when he joined in 2016.
Green may be the heart and soul but Curry is the glue that keeps this team together.
The sooner he’s back, the better.
