NBA Friday Night ACCA: Celtics to squeeze past the Bucks
The games come thick and fast over the festive period in the NBA, and before that gets going we have another big Friday night schedule here. Without a doubt, that Celtics against Bucks match-up is the one that stands out.
Bucks @ Celtics
Friday, 21 December, 01:00
After five wins in their last six games, the Bucks will arrive into this one confident of a win — but they might well be in for a shock. The Celtics have won six of their last eight and signs are they are finally starting to click — despite two recent losses.
However, the Bucks often struggle on the road and they’ve also had issues when facing their main competition from other power teams. The Celtics remain a work in progress, but they have the star quality that can be enough in games like this.
The reason for the Celtics being tipped here is that they are extremely strong at home and after some recent setbacks look in the mood to respond here. They’re outscoring teams by an average of 9.6 points at home this season, while they’ve also been on top in recent meetings with the Bucks winning on five out of eight occasions.
Back the Celtics (-1.5) @ 20/21
Timberwolves @ Spurs
Friday, 21 December, 01:30
The Timberwolves come into this one while riding a cold streak, with five wins in their last six games. It’s no wonder they are, given how they’re allowing 111.2 points per game on average and 45.4% shooting.
On the road the Timberwolves have lost their last four and despite coming up against an average Spurs, are unlikely to do anything here.
That being said the Spurs have won six of their last seven games overall, and the same amount when playing at home. DeMar DeRozan continues to shine after his arrival in the off-season and is averaging 23.3 points per game.
The Timberwolves are in a bad moment, while the Spurs are playing their best basketball of the season right now. It’s clear which way to go on this one.
Back the Spurs (-4) @ 10/11
Jazz @ Trail Blazers
Friday, 21 December, 03:00
After four losses in their last six games, the Jazz look for a bounce back win against one of the best teams in the NBA right now. The Blazers have won five of their last seven and continue to make waves as they race to a playoff place.
The Jazz will call upon Donovan Mitchell as usual, who will be asked to bridge the gap in this game. Mitchell is averaging 20.9 points per game and can be the main threat to the Trail Blazers on Friday night. They also come into this one after beating the Warriors in a shock win, but, despite that, the odds are against them here.
The Trail Blazers, meanwhile, are emphatic at home, winning five of their last six and prove to be too much for the majority of teams that visit Portland. Damian Lillard has been sensational this season and is averaging 27.2 points per game. He’s set for another big night here.
Back the Trail Blazers (-2) @ 5/6
Pelicans @ Lakers
Friday, 21 December, 03:30
After losing five of their last seven games, the Pelicans could do with a win and what better than to beat the Lakers.
The Pelicans main man Anthony Davis has been strongly linked with a trade to the Lakers so all eyes will be on him here against the team he may well be playing for in 2019. He’s averaging 28 points per game for the Pelicans and at times it feels as though he’s fighting on his own. He will need serious help against the Lakers.
The Lakers have won their last five home games, though they have struggled on the road of late. LeBron and co have suffered some narrow losses, but they are heading in the right direction overall. At home they’re 47.9 percent from the field and outscoring teams by 3.7 points on average.
The Pelicans are terrible on the road and there is no chance of them pulling out a win here even if Davis comes up big.
TIP: Lakers -4.5 @ 8/11
