Ireland v England Betting Tips: Can England get started with a surprise win?

Updated: 20/11/2024

Odds and preview ahead of Six Nations clash

The Six Nations kicks off tonight with France hosting Wales, with a huge game to follow at the Aviva Stadium tomorrow as Ireland face England.

The hosts are 4/5 to win the tournament outright as they go in search of back-to-back Grand Slams.

But England will hope to prove they are more than whipping boys.

You can catch all the action on ITV from 4:45pm, but stay put for all the key odds and preview of the big clash…

Head-to-Head

Ireland have out-muscled England in the last two Six Nations ties, winning 13-9 in 2017 and 24-15 at Twickenham last year.

England did grab back-to-back victories at home in 2015 and 2016 respectively.

The Irish may be ranked the best side in Europe right now, but they only won one game between the pair from August 2011 to February 2016.

Key Battles

Manu Tuilagi’s inclusion in the starting eleven is the headline news in the England camp. The 27-year-old centre is starting his first international game since June 2014.

Second row’s Maro Itoje and George Kruis will be crucial to halting Ireland’s aerial game that has them at second in the world rankings.

England’s Elliot Daly will have his work cut out at full-back. However, Fly-half Owen Farrell could be the away side’s match winner.

Ireland should make this a brutal, bloody Test match and will have 2018’s World Rugby Player of the Year in Johnny Sexton in the line-up.

Jacob Stockdale has the most tries in Six Nations history, picking up seven as Ireland swept everyone aside last year.

Match Odds

In the outright odds, Ireland start the 2/7 favourites, England to win in Dublin for the first time since 2013 is 3/1.

Our traders have a draw coming in at 18/1. In recent times this fixture has never been a high scoring affair, Over +38.5 and Under +38.5 points are both at 10/11 apiece.

In the handicap betting Ireland are at Evens to win -8.

England to be winning at half-time is 19/10, but Ireland are 4/6 in the race to 20 points.
