Europa League Accumulator: Tight times in Istanbul
Updated: 18/11/2024
We narrowly missed out on a winning acca during the last round of Europa League fixtures after Lazio’s surprise loss to Limassol prevented a successful four-fold.
This time we’re back with another four tips including some decisive games in groups that are yet to be decided.
Returning odds of just shy of 10/1, we start off in the Turkish capital in Group I.
Besiktas vs. Malmo
17:55
One of the tightest tables heading into Thursday’s fixtures is Group I where three points separate the four teams.
Malmo sitting in third visit second place Besiktas on Thursday night and the Swedes know that a repeat of their victory in the reverse fixture will give them a place in the last 32.
Besiktas can’t afford to sit back and, as Senol Gunes’ side have the weakest defensive record in the group, it should lead to an open game. Throw in injuries to first choice defenders Pepe and Caner Erkin and the home side’s prospects of a clean sheet seem slim.
Both teams have scored in four of Besiktas’ five group games thus far as well as each of Malmo’s last three, and a repeat is highly likely.
Sevilla vs. Krasnodar
17:55
Given that Krasnodar top Group J with four wins from five and just five goals conceded, the odds seem stacked against them as the Russian side travel to Spain. A draw would be enough to guarantee a place in the knockout phase as group winners for Krasnodar, however, a heavy defeat would throw their progress into real doubt and we can expect them to employ a cautious approach.
They will certainly take confidence from the fact that Sevilla have been relatively goal shy of late, finding the net just four times in their last five matches. It’s also 10 games since the Spaniards won a game by more than a single goal, hitting bottom club Akhisarspor for six back in October.
Krasnodar, meanwhile, haven’t lost a game by more than a single goal all season, so a handicap bet would be my tip, giving the visitors a one-goal advantage to fall back on.
Olympiacos vs. AC Milan
20:00
The big match in Group F sees Olympiacos in need of a comfortable victory against Milan to progress at the Italians’ expense following a 3–1 loss in the reverse fixture in San Siro. The hosts have no choice but to open up at one stage or another and ,while their visitors certainly don’t need to do so, any opportunity to catch their Greek opponents on the counter will be gladly taken.
Gennaro Gattuso’s side have kept just three clean sheets in all competitions this season and know the best way to kill this game off is to score. Both teams have found the net in the Rossoneri’s last four Europa League outings and we can’t discount something similar here.
At even money the over 2.5 goals odds are too tempting to resist for me. Olympiacos’ need for three points and quite possibly three goals of their own will lead to an entertaining affair.
FC Copenhagen vs. Bordeaux
20:00
They may sit bottom of Group C, but Bordeaux know a two-goal victory in Copenhagen could be enough to see them through. The Ligue 1 side have been inconsistent to say the least for some time now, but their recent run of six games unbeaten is cause for encouragement. A victory over Saint-Etienne last time out will have boosted morale, while draws against both Lyon and PSG in that time suggest Bordeaux are well over their October slump.
Their hosts need to win too, so it should be an end-to-end game. The difference is the Danes’ recent lack of cutting edge, failing to score in three successive Europa League matches.
I fancy the away side to come away with at least a point, even though that would mean elimination for both involved.
Recommended Accumulator Summary
Back Both Teams to Score in Besiktas vs. Malmo @ 4/5
Back Krasnodar (+1.5) @ 8/11
Back Over 2.5 Goals in Olympiacos vs. Milan @ Evens
Back Bordeaux Double Chance @ 4/6
Total ACCA Odds: 9.5/1
