Race Preview

This is a typically deep and competitive Aintree handicap hurdle, packed with progressive types—particularly towards the bottom of the weights—and it looks a race where momentum and improvement could prove decisive.

Hold The Serve arrives as one of the most progressive runners in the field, bidding for a four-timer after an impressive sequence of wins. His latest success on handicap debut suggested there’s still plenty more to come, and the step up to 3m looks a major positive given how strongly he finished over shorter. With a workable weight and continued improvement likely, he sets a very solid standard.

Supremely West is a major player after landing the Pertemps Final at Cheltenham. That was a big-field handicap of similar nature, and although he’s been hit with a 9lb rise, he shaped like a horse still ahead of his mark. If reproducing that level, he has to be feared despite the extra weight.

Kaka’s Cousin is an interesting contender with untapped potential. His fourth in the EBF Final at Sandown was a strong piece of form in a competitive race, and he looks the type to improve further over this longer trip. With a relatively low weight and scope for progression, he makes plenty of each-way appeal.

Fortune Timmy is another to note on handicap debut after a solid effort in Grade 1 company, while Get On George continues to progress and shouldn’t be far away if seeing out the trip.

Value Angle

Kaka’s Cousin makes the most appeal from a value perspective. He has strong handicap form, remains unexposed at staying trips, and looks capable of stepping forward again in a race that should suit his profile.

Each Way: Kaka’s Cousin ⭐⭐⭐⭐☆ (81%)

Verdict

Hold The Serve looks the standout progressive horse in the field and can complete a four-timer with the step up in trip likely to suit. Supremely West is the main threat after his Cheltenham success, while Kaka’s Cousin appeals most as a value each-way option with further improvement expected.
