⭐ Tips – Turners Novices’ Hurdle

  • WIN: Ballyfad
  • MAIN DANGER: No Drama This End
  • VALUE BET: King Rasko Grey
  • OUTSIDER: Skylight Hustle

Race Overview – Turners Novices’ Hurdle (1:20 Cheltenham)

The Turners Novices’ Hurdle (formerly the Baring Bingham) is one of the key middle-distance novice hurdles at the Cheltenham Festival, run over 2m5f and regularly producing future Grade 1 stars.

The 2026 renewal looks a deep race with strong Irish representation and a number of progressive novices stepping up in trip for the first time.

At the head of the market is No Drama This End, the leading British contender after winning all three hurdle starts including a Grade 1. However, Irish raider Ballyfad brings top-class form from Leopardstown and could prove the one to beat if staying this longer distance.

Several exciting horses such as Sober, King Rasko Grey, and Skylight Hustle add further intrigue to a wide-open contest.

⭐ Main Selection – Ballyfad

Ballyfad gets the vote after finishing a close second in a Grade 1 at Leopardstown last month.

That performance showed he belongs at the highest level and he looked unlucky not to win after being caught late. The move up to 2m5f could unlock further improvement, as he shaped like a strong stayer over shorter.

Trainer Gordon Elliott has an excellent record preparing horses for the Cheltenham Festival and Ballyfad looks the type who will relish the stiff finish up the famous hill.

With proven Grade 1 form and potential improvement over this longer trip, he makes strong appeal at around 8/1–10/1.

⚠️ Main Danger – No Drama This End

Paul Nicholls’ No Drama This End has been extremely impressive this season.

The six-year-old arrives here unbeaten over hurdles, including a convincing Grade 1 success last time out. That form makes him the leading British hope in the race.

He clearly has plenty of ability and the way he finished his races suggests this longer trip will suit.

However, the price may not offer huge value in such a competitive field, particularly against several Irish runners with strong form.

Still, he must be respected and looks almost certain to be involved in the finish.

💰 Value Bet – King Rasko Grey

King Rasko Grey is another runner with strong Irish form and could offer excellent each-way value.

He finished just behind Ballyfad in that Leopardstown Grade 1 and now steps up in distance, which may suit his running style.

The booking of Paul Townend is particularly interesting, suggesting the Mullins yard believe he has a serious chance here.

With the potential for improvement over this longer trip and a top jockey aboard, King Rasko Grey could easily outrun his odds.

🐎 Dark Horse – Skylight Hustle

One horse who could be underestimated is Skylight Hustle.

Although his Grade 1 victory earlier in the season may not have been the strongest race, he still showed determination and ability to get the job done.

Trainer Gordon Elliott knows what is required at the Cheltenham Festival and this progressive six-year-old could take another step forward.

If the pace collapses late on, Skylight Hustle may be the one finishing strongest.

Other Notable Runners

Sober

An exciting runner from the Willie Mullins yard, Sober is unbeaten in two hurdle starts and was a classy performer on the Flat. He clearly has huge potential but faces a significant step up in class here.

Act Of Innocence

One of Britain’s best chances, Act Of Innocence looked impressive when winning a Listed race at Huntingdon. He could improve again and cannot be ruled out.

Bossman Jack

Progressive for the Skelton yard and arrives here on a winning run. However, this represents a big jump in class.

Sortudo

Runner-up in a Grade 1 at Naas earlier this season and capable of running well again if reproducing that form.

Predicted Finishing Order

  1. Ballyfad
  2. No Drama This End
  3. King Rasko Grey
  4. Skylight Hustle

Final Verdict

The Turners Novices’ Hurdle looks highly competitive with several improving horses lining up.

While No Drama This End deserves his place near the top of the market, the Irish challenge appears particularly strong this year.

Ballyfad brings top-class Grade 1 form and could improve further for the step up in trip, making him the standout selection.

With stamina likely to play a major role up the Cheltenham hill, Ballyfad looks capable of producing a career-best performance on the Festival stage.

Best Bets Summary

  • WIN: Ballyfad
  • EACH WAY: King Rasko Grey
  • DANGER: No Drama This End
  • OUTSIDER: Skylight Hustle
