Peter O’Mahony will captain a Munster side travelling to the Ricoh Arena in Coventry hoping to defeat Saracens, and in doing so end a run of six European Cup semi-finals without a win.

Saracens will line up with a near full-strength side in the Champions Cup semi, with Owen Farrell returning to European action after he missed the quarter-final against Glasgow Warriors for the birth of his son. Captain Brad Barritt also returns from an ankle injury sustained in that match, while Mako Vunipola will take the No 1 jersey.

Chris Farrell highlighted the difficulties he and his Munster teammates face earlier in the week: “They have been one of the biggest forces in Europe in the last few years and won every game in the pool stages, but we won’t be giving anything away.”

The Ireland centre added: “They are consistently a really physical side, so that will be key for us is to stop their momentum.

“They rely on set-piece and the contact area.”

Saracens’ Mako Vunipola will make a surprise start having recovered from his injury lay-off, and the Englishmen have close to a full-strength squad.

Meanwhile, Munster have key injuries to Keith Earls on the wing and Joey Carbery at fly-half. Mark McCall of Saracens said ahead of the clash: “Their defence is the area that I see as the thing that they have most improved. It’s difficult to win set-piece ball against them and I think they have added some strings to their bow in attack. 

“So, [they are] just a really good all-round team and they did a very good job at home to Exeter, who are flying in our competition over here.

“There is no obvious weakness. They do the fundamental things brilliantly, so we know we are in for a really tough challenge on Saturday.””
