Fielding v Canelo Preview: Will Rocky’s stock continue to rise? - (2026)
Updated: 26/02/2026
Odds and preview ahead of fight night
Madison Square Garden could be the perfect venue for a modern-day upset.
Rocky Fielding will step into the ring with the unified-middleweight champ Saul ‘Canelo’ Alvarez on Saturday night.
Despite Canelo stepping up to super-middleweight, it’ll be Rocky who’s the underdog here at one of boxing's iconic venues.
But can Rocky shock the world?
How have we got here?
Rewind to November 2017 and Fielding was posing for a selfie with Canelo like a lucky fan, not knowing he'd soon to be an opponent.
Since then the Stockbridge native has won a version of the super-middleweight world title and has now been lined up for his biggest test to date.
Canelo is coming off the back of a two-fight series against Gennady Golovkin.
Reports suggest a third fight is being lined up to complete the trilogy in May 2019.
So a victory on Saturday would give the Mexican even more clout as the best pound-for-pound boxer around with a title in yet another weight class.
Rocky Fielding
A win on Saturday would make Fielding an overnight sporting hero in Britain.
The 31-year-old is the naturally bigger man and has a massive four-and-a-half-inch reach advantage.
He’s only lost one of his 28 bouts and has come back strong following that loss to Callum Smith in 2015.
Fielding packs a punch too, knocking out David Brophy and then Tyron Zeuge to bag the WBA regular super-middleweight strap.
Canelo Alvarez
Canelo is stepping up to the super-middleweight division having claimed all but one of the middleweight belts against Golovkin.
The 28-year-old has a wealth of experience, having turned professional at the age of 15 and has fought the likes of Floyd Mayweather, Julio Chavez Jr and Amir Khan.
Fielding had problems with the agile John Ryder last year. Canelo’s class and quick-thinking will be a huge step up in quality.
Fight odds and Prediction
Fielding’s reach could cause some serious problems for Canelo. The British fighter is 8/1 to score the victory.
Rocky may try and get this over with early and play on Canelo’s slow start at a new weight. He’s 33/1 to get it done within 3 rounds.
The Mexican will surely have found his range by round four and Fielding will likely have to hope he’s landed some big blows by then.
Alvarez to win outright is 1/20. And he’s 7/2 for a point’s victory.
