Sanchez ruled out of Juve clash - (2026)
Updated: 26/02/2026
Manchester United forward Alexis Sanchez has been ruled out of tomorrow night's Champions League clash against Juventus, amid rumours that the Chilean is hoping to force a move away from Old Trafford. Sanchez was signed by United last January in a swap deal involving midfielder Henrikh Mkhitaryan, but has so far failed to make a significant impact for the Red Devils.
It's been a testing month for Manchester United. Having bounced back from 2-0 down to win 3-2 against Newcastle on MD8, Jose Mourinho's side were forced to take a single point from their match with Chelsea at Stamford Bridge (2-2), despite a heroic effort in the second-half.
One of the more notable absentees from Mourinho's starting XI at the Bridge was Alexis Sanchez, who entered the pitch in the 85th minute of the game. Standing in for Sanchez was winger Anthony Martial, who completely turned the match on it's head by scoring twice in the second-half, only for Chelsea to equalise through Ross Barkley in the 96th minute.
“I think Martial is like the team, the team is playing fine, Martial is playing fine – it is easier for individuals to play when the team is playing well and vice versa.” said Jose Mourinho. “Anthony played in two matches where the team played really, scored five goals and he played well too.”
It appears that Mourinho will be forced to rely on Martial again when the Red Devils host Juventus tomorrow night, with news that Alexis Sanchez is set to be rested. Sanchez played 90 minutes for international side Chile last week, but was absent from United's Monday training session.
“The players you saw [training] are the players who are available,” said Mourinho. “Nothing to hide. Alexis is out.”
In other news, Antonio Valencia could make his return for the Red Devils tomorrow, following a recent surgery that has kept him out of United's last two fixtures. “The reason was that he was 10 days without training, not an injury but he had a very complicated surgery on his mouth and he needed time to recover his level after that.” Mourinho added.
