He Who Dares looks the one to beat after showing clear signs of improvement in recent weeks. The dual-purpose five-year-old followed a hurdle success at Wexford with an excellent third on the Flat at Tramore over 2m, travelling strongly before just finding two too good late on. Racing from the same handicap mark, he remains well treated if building on that effort and has the profile of a horse still on the upgrade.
Not Just Any Eagle rates the biggest danger. A four-time winner, including over this course, he hinted that a return to form was imminent when staying on into third at Fairyhouse over 1m6f. This longer trip should suit even better and he's now 2lb below his last winning mark, making him a serious contender.
Miss Gitana catches the eye as the value play. She produced her best run for some time when a close third over this course and distance two weeks ago under positive tactics. Raised just 1lb for that effort, she remains below her last winning mark and represents a stable that has shown recent signs of life.
Chutzpal is another capable dual-purpose performer who won a valuable handicap at Killarney last summer. He improved on his seasonal return when fifth behind Not Just Any Eagle at Fairyhouse and now meets that rival 2lb better off after a further easing by the handicapper.
Boxing Great has solid staying credentials after winning over 2m on the all-weather and wasn't disgraced in the competitive Northumberland Vase at Newcastle. A repeat of that effort would see him involved, although he still has something to prove back on turf.
